St Philip's College LVN Spring 2015 Applicants!

Published

Hey guys! Turned in my application in the middle of October and am impatiently waiting for the end of the month when we find out if we made it. :)

Does anyone off the top of their head know the hours for the daytime program? I'm blanking and can't remember. Also, does anyone know how competitive the program is or what GPA they're accepting right now?

What's the name of the city of sa program? I'm having a hard time scheduling with PQ right now.

Me too they told me today that they don't even have anymore spots available and they will probably get filled before I'm able to finish all the steps.. ? the thing that's worries me is the book cost

Spots for what, the orientation?

I just need to do my final interview with PQ and I should be good to go. Hopefully my spot wasn't take by someone else ?

For project quest.. I have two more interviews...

For nursing there's nothing we need to do till orientation right??

We need to do a background check and drug test for the program. I'm really worried about PQ now. ?

Training for Job Success

There's a little bit of info on that link. The program is just job training with the city but they call it CoSA. They pay for stethoscopes, scrubs, shoes, watches, etc. They even give you a huge bag of toiletries every month with tampons lol, lotion, deodorant & everything but I always donated mine.

I called my old caseworker yesterday & she said you have to complete 1 semester of the nursing program before you can apply, too many people were dropping during the 1st semester I guess. She said we can apply in April. She also said they're having more applicants than ever & spots are filling quickly :( hopefully people drop before April.

I always get my books on my amazon account, you can rent or buy & they have free 2 day shipping. For me Amazon has been waaay cheaper than the spc bookstore. I'm only going to buy books for the first semester & pray that CoSA has a spot in April.

I'm seriously thinking about just taking out a direct student loan from the bank if PQ doesn't come through. They're only planning on paying $4000 out of projected $8000 for the year anyways, and $4000 isn't too bad of a loan. It's a loan through Sallie May...but if I do a loan, I might just borrow the full $6000 for tuition.

Taking out a loan for 1 semester shouldn't be too bad. Have you tried a federal direct loan from the school? I cringe everytime I accept my award but I would literally never see my daughter if I had to work & go to school. The max you can get is 10500 if you're considered a sophomore. The total cost of the program is 6639 but that's not including books & supplies.

I would avoid Sally Mae if you can because it's a private loan not a federal direct loan from the dept of education. The biggest difference is your interest on private loans is variable & can get really expensive. 1 of the Fed loans is interest free

I'm in the same boat just my husband his working because we have two year old daughter if I don't get owned I'll most likely get a loan aswell

FINALLY got through at PQ! Terry said she was recommending me for enrollment and scheduled my last two interviews/appts for early January. She said enrollment isn't guaranteed but that they still have spots available.

My panic attack can back off just a teensy bit now! ?
