St Philip's College LVN Spring 2015 Applicants!

Published

Hey guys! Turned in my application in the middle of October and am impatiently waiting for the end of the month when we find out if we made it. :)

Does anyone off the top of their head know the hours for the daytime program? I'm blanking and can't remember. Also, does anyone know how competitive the program is or what GPA they're accepting right now?

OK so know we wait for school to start..

I think the fingerprints are part of the background check but we'll get that info in a few weeks. I'm sure orientation is gonna be long but I doubt we'll stay the whole time.

I'm currently registered for micro, ChemII & a few other courses for my BSN, I'm wondering if I drop those now I'll probably lose my financial aid because it's gonna be a few weeks before we're registered for nursing classes. Are yall registered for any classes?

No, my schedule is completely clear right now. I took the last of my pre-reqs in the spring and took the fall off. Trying to get work to approve a new schedule for me for the spring. I figure only working weekends and maybe one evening during the week should be doable.

You're done with bsn prereqs? Curious as to why you're not getting into a bsn program instead of lvn

I'm just missing nutrition and med term. My gpa is in the low 3's bc of the classes I took a long time ago, but all my recent courses (last two years) have been mostly A's with a few B's. After I do LVN, I'm going to transfer into an LVN to RN or LVN to BSN program.

I herd it won't effect your financial aid as long as classes haven't started..

You should be fine..

Ok gotcha. That's a good plan. I need 3 more before I can apply at UTHSC. A girl in my Chem class is a level 2 nursing student & she said the program now has a partnership with UIW for lvn-bsn. Wayland has lvn-bsn too that was suspended for nclex scores but will restart in 2016 right after we finish our lvn! The only downside is the schools have different bsn prereqs & all mine are following the UTHSC track. The other schools don't require statistics & a few other classes but do require some religious courses.

Ugh, Project Quest is supposed to help me with my LVN costs, but I've gotta figure out how the hell I'm gonna pay for LVN to RN or LVN to BSN.

But first things first, right? I'll worry about that in a year ?

I'm going tomorrow to turn in my acceptance letter to project quest

I know I'm not trying to get ahead of myself but I just found out I've probably wasted time & money.

I have a lot of friends who did project quest but I couldn't because of my tickets :( There's a program with the city I qualify for, its less of a hassle than project quest but they basically provide the same service.

Yea I really need to get project quest because I herd the books cost more than 1 grand a semester

The project quest contact person at St. Philips is Hugo. If you can get with him it's faster that way. They cover everything including gas but the biggest complaint was about paperwork. You have to have your instructors sign stuff every week and I think you'll meet with Hugo weekly as well.

The city of SA program covers everything except gas. They don't require any instructor signatures but you do have to meet with your caseworker like once a month. Either way there's plenty of assistance out there :)
