Hey, has anyone else received an acceptance letter for the spring 2010 semester?
I am about to start my second semester at SPSON on Jan 3rd, and I must say that the first semester had its ups and downs, however it was a pretty good semester. Throughout the whole semester the workload can be overwhelming, but time management is the key!! All I can say is study study study and do not slack off...slacking off can lead to a down fall. Most of the problems SPSON had with students are slowly but surely being resolved...for example the grading policy was changed and is now back to normal like any other school...and during my clinical at flushing hospital about 3 or 4 nurses who graduated last may from SPSON are working in med surg unit....so there are graduates out there that are finding jobs....I'm pretty much satisfied with SPSON worked hard and met some great people who have made the semester enjoyable...good luck to all incoming freshman!!!!
Thanks for the advice Tani i am starting on Jan3rd and a little stressed over the work load how many hours would you say you spend a day studying? I am only going to school no job but i have 3 young children to care for I have a good support system between my husband and famlly just worried about the amount of time i need to study.
No problem JC...I studied about 3 hrs a day and took one day out of the week to myself....fridays were the days I would relax watch tv catch up on my shows lol..I believe that we all need a day to ourselves and breathe!!! on weekends I would study more but I would always take breaks in between. The saturday before an exam I would study my butt off but i made sure on Sundays I would would ONLY review and do some practice questions and sleep early...I def do not recommend cramming on sundays..please make sure you do not end up doing new material day before an exam...i made it my mission to make the day before an exam review day bc cramming is horriible....
If you want you should purchase a laptop...for Nur 100 we had to do a 3 page paper and there are some helpful questions online to help you study and the school required us to do these case studies toward the end of the semester which gave us some extra points..Best of luck to you!!
Hi all,
Just wanted to say congratulations in making it into the new semester. I know its tough getting into a nursing school especially in NYC. I myself applied to other schools just to get rejected. They had long waiting list not enough prereqs etc.
I am currently a Sophomore and i have mixed reviews about the school, Yes i do see them as unorganized, they do have short staff , but i feel as the people that complain the most are the ones that are not doing well, fail or not being babied. This is NOT first grade they will not hold your hand or treat you like a Prince or Princess. I have friends that go to both QCC and Lagaurdia and they hate it , the one from QCC complains of the teachers having no personality (like a robot) and they have to learn on there own. The other from Laguardia always has 15 page papers due every 2 weeks. Every school has there ups and downs.
This school is giving you a opportunity to take your NCLEX. If you want to take your NCLEX in 6 years apply to a community college (they have long list of people who apply to them too just to get turned down and reapply every year).
And as for NLN and finding a job , Its more about they way you approach your interview, if you show up with a nasty attitude no one will hire you. I know 6 people that graduated last year, all of them got jobs 3 in Flushing hospital, one in a clinic, 2 in LIJ
We are all here to become a RN , Being a nurse is tough, You have to take crap from Doctors,CNA,other nurses, agitated families and patients. You have to stand for 8-16 hour days, Alot of paper work, arguing with pharmacies, dietary,PT,doing many reports, attending millions of meetings, working holidays (i know this from experience im a LPN) etc... so school is not so bad till you get to the real world of nursing. But it does have its ups too.... great pay! lots of vacation time, good benefits and that occasional time the patient says: Thank You for helping me.
Just wanted to say good luck guys dont get caught up in all this negativity!!!!!
P.S. i dont work for the school, and yes i do have some old books for sale!
Hi everyone I just want some advice on what to do because I just took the NLN and this would be my second time taking it, both in which i did absolutly terrible, and i want to apply to St. Pauls because the HESI exam I heard is not as difficult opposed to the NLN. I am just trying to get accepted to a nursing program which is hard for me bc I am not good at big tests. My gpa is a 3.3 and If anyone goes to St. Pauls or got information or has any comments, It would be much appreciated.. thankss
I have started my first week at St pauls staten island, the professors all seem great and very helpful however I am feeling very overwhelmed just wanted to know if any current students have any advice on how to study and retain all this info, I have been reading and studying powerpoints just seems really hard to keep up with all the classes. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
