St. mary's in Knoxville

Published

I recently applied for a staff RN position at St. Mary's in Knoxville and was offered $18.45 an hour. I graduated in 00. I'm planning on applying at all the area hospitals and am wondering if this rate seems a little low to anybody else. What do the new grads start with? It can't be that much lower. Honestly, this is depressing.

I am considering a move to Knoxville next year and am seeking information on new grad programs at UT and Fort Sanders. Any information you can share regarding the environment, new RN orientation, etc would be appreciated. Also any info on the area, lifestyle would be appreciated. I am an older, late life career changer, enjoy outdoors, hiking - my wife and I are considering NC or TN. Thanks in advance.

hi I moved to knoxville area in 2003 from dayton ohio. I had graduated nursing school in 01 starting pay for my experience was 17.45/hr almost $3/hr pay cut. Pay scales here are much lower than other places in the country. Suppose to be lower cost of living ect. I will tell you that St. Mary's, Baptist, and Ft Sanders pay are slightly higher than UT but not by much. Hope that helps.

It does, thanks.

I did not mean to burst any bubble or anything. That IS NEVER my intention but, I just thought I eould remind you that my husband eorkrd @ MMC and he gfot fed up with the union and how the big wigs were treating the support staff of the hospital. I found that out as well when I ws a volunbteer there and as my father was in there for surgery, he ended coming back TWO days later because of a staff infection from there. He was in there for two weeks and til this day his breathing sounds like he just finished running a marothon just sitting still.

I would like to respond to CHESNEYFAN comments about Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge, TN. My husband currently works for MMC and has been employed there for 3 years. His experience has been quite the opposite.

While off for major heart surgery, upper management was very supportive of our family. They made many phone calls checking on our children that were home alone, we received monetary support from management, staff and physicians and food was delivered to our home on several occassions. He had only been employed 6 months at the time of his surgery.

Another benefit was Covenant Health covered what our insurance did not pay. What a relief for us, not to have a large medical bill.

He states he has consistently seen changes and improvements for patients and staff at MMC since his employment there.

Baptist pays well I hear but I hear bad things about them as well...they pay more so the staff puts up with more....I work with 2 nurses that just left Baptist

I just started at a hospital in Knoxville in May... and my base pay is $17.50/hr. Like others have said, the pay is lower here than other areas of the country but the cost of living is also lower. Granted I am single with no dependents, but I have had no problem living comfortably on this salary. I understand that dependents/family do make a big difference to this kind of thing though. I hope things work out for you!! I've heard that St. Mary's is a nice place to work.

St Mary's. Nice place to work.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

It should be named the sisters of Satan
