St. mary's in Knoxville

Published

I recently applied for a staff RN position at St. Mary's in Knoxville and was offered $18.45 an hour. I graduated in 00. I'm planning on applying at all the area hospitals and am wondering if this rate seems a little low to anybody else. What do the new grads start with? It can't be that much lower. Honestly, this is depressing.

This thread is four years old....

Yeah and St Mary's is four years worse now too.

Specializes in Clinical Partner and CNA.

Four years old or not....I worked as a clinical partner at Baptist West a year and half ago. I dont know how they pay their RN's, but as a clinical partner I was slammed with no help...ever! I worked med/surg and would have 10-15 patients by myself sometimes. It was awful. That may not sound like a lot, but a lot of them were total care patients. I loved learning and getting the experience, but I have never worked so hard in my life! I never got help lifting patients. The 3rd week I was there I hurt my back because I couldnt get help lifting. A couple of months after that I found out that I was pregnant and started bleeding because of lifting so much. I was put on bedrest after that. So you may get paid more, but be prepared to work hard!

Yeah. The whole system went to hell in a handbasket.

I'm just avoiding the whole mess. It's just a poor system to work for IMO.

When Mercy came in and took over things went downhill rapidly and I doubt they'll survive long term.

I just left a job there and I NEVER got a break, got paid ridiculously low and ran my butt off the entire 8 hours I worked. They are constantly calling you to come in on your day off but when you need time off they won't give it to you without a big fight. They have almost taken away all help from CNA to LPN and the patient load.... 8-10 pt on med-surg is dangerous and a possible liability issue.

That is a giant multifloored, multidisciplinary morass of liability IMO. Be damn happy you're out of there and celebrate.

Again, I am delighted not to have continued working there. I've never felt my license was in jeopardy until I worked for that company. Never is a pretty strong word and I chose it purposely.

They have real problems throughout the system and as I indicated before it's probably a place better off being completely avoided. I know you might still be mad about what you experienced there. Time to let it go and be thankful they didn't do anything to hurt you.

I currently work for St Mary's, kind of surprise of some comments! Yes the merge with Baptist causes some problems but it's a very nice place to work. I've been working over there since 2006. As a syaff nurse, I never had 8 patients to care for and rarely have 7 patients. I like the work environment. I think that everywhere you go, you will have some problems. I have to admit that the pay is low but with the BID SHIFT system, you can make more money and be in control of your schedule.

That's a typical reply for someone who is in DENIAL not to mention poor logic. The logic, "because it's good for me it should be good for everyone."

Go away from my thread.

Hi, I recently started at St. Mary's as almost a new grad and I can tell you that that is almost exactly what I am making. For someone with so much experience, that is definately low. Not sure what gives with that, but our bonuses are only like 3% or so per year.

3 years ago this area was starting new graduates out at the same pay. It would be wise to get some experience and move on. Sadly, you almost have to job hop to get the increase in salary that you deserve. Good luck with that place.
