  1. Please share the cruise line that allowed spouse on board..thanks
  2. I hope you are there to care for me when my time is near!
  3. For what it is worth - Follow your training, disciplinary action by the hospital or your board will not consider the actions of others, only your action - same logic as all practices, would you risk patient, visitor, or your own health by non compliance of other basic practices? If supplies are an issue call your infection control nurse, as far as the compliance of others - do not even go there- not your issue unless you are charge or infection control..
  4. I have taken the test in three facilities, Tx, Co and Tn and passed it in each. None of these were Magnet or appeared to have any aspiration as a Magnet hospital. HCA tends to use it but not in all states. There is a partial list of hospitals on Pan Travelers and some general study guides. However if it is not graded by an outside contractor there is potential for abuse. I try to avoid it on contracts, if you have to take it just try to literally spell out every single ABC intervention for every scenerio presented.
  5. You are better off without Craven - Trust me! I will only accept PBDS in a contract if I can take it locally and it is scored by one of the outside contractors.
  6. congrads on school. enjoy. take a serious look at travel nursing one year after graduation. my wife and i are roaming the country three months at a time!
  7. Graduated at age 51. Travel the country full time as a travel nurse, work three days a week, play the rest of the time. The actual work is rewarding and enjoyable after a lifetime of corporate nonsense and the stress of self employment. Would suggest completing not only pre-reqs but all non-nursing courses, allows you concentrate on the important learning in the nursing program. School in mid life is a hoot!
  8. So much for going back to Craven. I hate to be cynical but I have heard others here in Az mentio they could not believe they "failed" PBDS, only to hear rumors of excess travelers on board. Contracts are frequently signed in anticipation of needs - if the needs do not remain the hospital has an out if they control the PBDS scoring. It is no a pure objective scoring with absoulute right/wrong answers. If the scoring is contracted out you remove the bias. In any case my approach is simple, I will only accept contracts with no PBDS or if they wish I will take it at thier expense at a local facility before signing the contract. It is absurd to move a traveler with the possibility hanging in the air of not being able to start work as agreed.
  9. please share the nc hospital name, thanks, i worked at craven, no pbs but it was early last year
  10. The newest J&J ads do feature real nurses, "Boston" I believe. They are also a dramatic improvement from the previous "feel good" commercials. I will give J&J credit for listening to the very accurate feedback on the previous series of commercials that failed to represent anything close to nursing life.
  11. your agency should be giving you candid advice. do not travel in any speciality you do not trust your competence in. The hospital may surprise you with orientation testing you are not able to pass, you will be on your own for the most part in your unit. But do travel! It is a great lifestyle if it fits your goals, the specialty is secondary, the travel is the experience.
  12. We have found aprivate mail box (UPS type Stores) to work well for a mailing address. They will forward to your assignment at your direction. We own a home, works very well for us. Suggest you discuss with your agency and your tax preparer the possible tax implications.
