St Joseph Medical Center Phoenix AZ

Hello to all, this is my first time on this site, so bear with me. I am considering a position as a night Supervisor at St Joseph Medical Center. I will potentially be working 3 12 hour shifts every week and 1/ 8hr shift everyother week. This is a salaried position. The assigned area is MICU, SICU, TICU. Can anyone out there tell me anything about this hospital system and or the area in question. Thank you Kateskards in Texas

I'm not a nurse yet, but I've done many, many hours of clinicals at this hospital, and was offered a job at St. Joe's. The people that work there LOVE it!! I rarely encountered anyone that hadn't been employed at the hospital for, at least, 2 to 3 years. The docs and residents work well with the nurses, too. I've worked on 3 different units, in the ER, and in some of the ancillary areas. They also have a computerized charting system which is great. I would really check it out. Let me know how it goes at St Josephs, I'm also interested in working at the hospital. I've spoke to them and hope to have a phone interview soon.

They seem to have some good opportunities for new nurses.

I spent over ten years there working in every single one of their ICUs and just loved it. From NICU, PICU and all of the adult ICUs.

If I were back in Arizona, that would be one of the only places that I would consider working at.

Have a job offer from St Joes and have heard nothing but good news from RN's working there.:)

In the UK at the moment but should arrive in phoenix this summer,:balloons:

I was born there. Great hospital Horrible traffic. Personally, I would never take a salaried position. Not a great area of town. I live near Sedona now. Check out Northern AZ. (NAHEALTH.COM). Good luck!

I have a phone interview with St. Joseph's Tuesday...gee I can't remember if its this tuesday or next tuesday! Anywhoo...guess it doesnt matter, illl be awaiting the call anxiously! What do they ask you for all of you who have done them?? I am so excited to hear nothing but good about this hospital!:)

What is it like? How many floors does it have? Are new grads well supported??

Im from Cincinnati, Ohio and the school I am currently attending is a very supportive envrionment that is conducive to learning...All the hospitals here have treated us like gold and nurtured us immensely. Im hoping St. Joe's is similar?

Anyone know about their relocation assistance and bonuses? I know I can ask the nurse recruiter when she calls but im just so excited!!!!

Oh and one more question. If St. Joe's is such a great hospital why are they in such need for nurses? And just for comparison, I was told that they are a 520 bed facility, regarding size how does that compare to other hospitals in the area? Oh...and how about nurse/patient ratios?

I don't know much about St. Joe's but I thought it was a magnet hospital. I may be confusing it with Good Sam but one of them is. Within the St. Joe's system is one of the all time best, world class Neurological units, called Barrow's. It rocks and had two of the most world reknowned MD's there, Spetzler and ?? (sorry,brain fart!) Also an excellent NICU. However folks are right, it is in the middle of a terrible part of Phoenix - it is a huge facility that goes on for city blocks but I think that includes some of the ancillary stuff like Barrow's.

Im not too worried about the area as long as there is safe parking. Im not into worrying about being mugged walking to the garage. Here in Cincy some of our hospitals arent in the greatest area but they do have awesome security. Childrens where I am now, there is a shuttle to the locked/gated garage and it drops you right off at your car and he waits for you to get in so that you are safe.

I don't plan on living downtown Phoenix. Most likely i'll live in Tempe. How long do you think it will take to get from Tempe to St. Joe's? Barring no traffic as i'll prob work 3rd shift, or atleast I want to!:):) Thanks for the info!
