  1. kwagner....that is such a horrible thing that happened to you, I'm so sorry. This is what discourages me about starting...I'm a new RN having trouble with orientation. I've been bounced between preceptors like there's not a care in the world---how do i know if it's because they're testing me or the nurses just want me to take their patients. There's no reason your orientation should have went as it did...I can't believe that. It seems that's all my orientation is- is taking patients -training Thank you for listening:mad: & god bless
  2. Consistency is a good word to use. I have talked to the NM about continuous-weekly changing my preceptors, because the preceptor is the charge nurse for the day. I feel like I'm definately being put to the test, because it stopped once I went to night shift, now their doing it to me again. They (staff nurses) are pretty upset and rumors flying that I've asked for a different preceptor. Why can't they respect consistency with the same RN-is this something they would fire me for? I've been told I'm doing alright and my documentation is good, but worry because I don't feel they were prepared for me to start as my schedule has been crazy:uhoh3: The other GN has had the same preceptor for her whole orientation--I don't get it?? Thanks for listening to me vent & god bless
  3. Thank you for asking this very good question...I hope someone responds:mad: Because, I also know of someone who I admire for their abilities in nursing, however, I haven't worked with them long~3 mos. Does this sound too desperate to ask after this short of time? Also, is it possible to have more than one mentor? God bless:mad:
  4. Florida Hospital in Orlando:mad:
  5. kwagner 51, I'm new...and it sounds as though you have experience under your belt. Tell me why they are going to fire her??
  6. I haven't done one, but wished I would have. Florida Hospital has them. They are suppose to give GN's the time to build more confidence in their critical thinking, time management & clinical skills, etc.. by giving you an extended orientation time. It does include some regularly scheduled class time and you are paired up with a nurse. Some critical care residencies are up to a year. I guess it just depends on what you want and what you're comfortable with. Maybe you can ask to talk to someone who has completed the program, to see if it's what you're looking for. Good luck to you and god bless:mad:
  7. I asked for another preceptor after feeling that I wasn't staying up to speed. I was only being honest w/my manager, as I felt my preceptor wasn't. That started rumors. The communication was little at best....she just didn't like working with me. Her anxiety level and mine together wasn't compatible. It's true what a friend told me-your preceptor/orientation can set the tone for your career. I'm determined not to let it get the best of me, but I still have self-doubt.... I try to remain optimistic but it's really discouraging. Being a new nurse is hard enough, in addition to learning what nurses you can trust. Advice is appreciated if any of you experienced nurses out there have any Have a great day & god bless
  8. I can't answer all of your questions, but I can tell you that Navy Corpsman are your "right hand man" if you're a Navy Nurse. I'm glad to admit that I've had great experience being a corpsman...I've worked with some wonderful nurses. Corpsman have alot of responsibility for not being a licensed. Think carefully about reserves or active duty. There's a big difference, especially when it affects family. You should talk to as many nurses as you can from reserve and active duty....not just recruiters!
  9. good for you PedsRN03:mad: ...where did you get accepted to school and what made you decide on an MPH? I'm also interested in public health and want to go back to school in the next few years.
  10. Thank goodness someone else is thinking like me, what a relief! I also dream of using PDA's to help us organize patient care and documentation.
  11. Hello Greentea...I was reading your reply. Research sounds like a positive move, is hospital experience needed ?
  12. Hellllllo Nurse...where are you working??
  13. That's great to hear! Is this where you started your experience..in ICU ?
  14. I'm so sorry to hear this. There has to be something, an option that hasn't been considered! Personal loan through your bank or college, if she is a member of any pre-professional associations they offer loans. Have you tried any of these?? I will look into this more....
  15. There are hospitals in FL that offer relocation, and you don't necessarily have to have experience. St. Vincents and Florida Hospital offer relocation assistance for new nurses. Good luck Darlene-keep us posted.
