Hello everyone, I am new allnurses.com. I am glad to see that there is a site where I can communicate with nurses from all over. I have a question. I recently applied to St joseph Hospital school of nursing located at 8th girard ave in philadelphia, PA. It is an accelerated one year RN program. I am somewhat concerned because I don't know much about the school. They don't even have a website. I wm currently working on prequisites to start the program in november. It is fairly new and just opened up about three years ago. I would love to get the input of someone that knows about the program or has graduated from it...thanks a lot.
I was accepted into the program and I am suppose to start on January 5, 2009. How is everyone paying for the tuition? Is anyone having problems with finanical aid?
The problem is they do not receive federal or state funding. So you can not use Stafford Loans or any of the fin.aid programs. The only payment option is private loans.
how was the net test?
The test was not to bad. I really suggest using the NET book. I took it twice. The 1st time with a random nursing exam book and the 2nd time with the NET book. Higher score with the NET book. The assistant Ros is relaxing and laided back. She helps to make the environment calm. The is an angel.
Congrats...on your acceptance! I am also accepted for the 2009 class... I have the same worries as you with money for tuition...I need a cosigner for a private loan but don't have anyone that would cosign for me. I was a little worried about them being accredited, but I looked at like this... If you pass the the NCLEX you are a nurse regardless, and I plan go get my BSN afterwards at drexel... My main concern is how I am going to survive for a year wihout a job... I have rent, car note, bills, a daughter....I don't know what in going to do!
yeah I know, the economy is bad... I don't know if we will be able to get a private loans for that matter! I've been trying hard to look into scholarships but, have not been successful! I wish I could have known sooner that i was accepted..I missed many scholarship deadlines because I had no acceptance letter!
The tution is the BIGGEST issue right now. Congrats on all that are accepted into St. Joe's upcoming year. Even with private loans it is still hard to secure one. The school recommends using Sallie Mae but even with a cosigner with excellent credit I was still denied. I am now looking at another banks. The first payment is due Dec. 15th for over 5000.00. Iam so stressed. :scrying:I am also trying to work out so kind of income for a year. I too have bills, kids, car insurance and rent. I need a place to sleep before and after school. :chuckle Keep praying and it will work out.
Congrats to you too. The tuition is the BIGGEST issue right now. I am also stressed about income for a year. I am to afraid to work and keep up with schoolwork and assignments. I was blessed with this I don't want anything to mess it up. I am working on my career, later for this job. I know I have two kids and we need to eat. They are accustom to food, hot water and a heated home. They are soft. HA-HA. But really I know what you are going through. I can't even sleep good at night.
Wow...that is crazy that you didn't get the sallie mae loan...the financial aid officer at St joseph makes it seem so easy to get one....She told me that most students have no problem...I guess it is diffrent this school year since many banks do not want to lend money any more due to the failing economy... I have an appointment with financial aid monday and I will see what happens....I will continue to search for scholarships and other means of tuituion assistance and if I find something I will pass the information along....I am hoping it works out...I will be hurt if I can't go because of money!

I am entering the St. Joe's in the Jan. 2009 class. The problem is they do not receive federal or state funding. So you can not use Stafford Loans or any of the fin.aid programs. The only payment option is private loans. With the way things are now that is hard to manage. I also told they are not accredited yet. That is concerning me BIG TIME.
