I have done a few searches, but haven't found many responses (or at least newer) re: St. Joseph's nurse practitioner program. I'm considering it because it seems flexible, reasonable, and like a good opportunity from what I can tell. Please share your experiences!! Is $600/credit reasonable for an online program? I feel it's almost worth it so that I can start sooner rather than later!

Thanks in advance :)

Hi! I'd like to revive my topic :)

I'm nearing completion of my first course, Leadership and Management. I took longer than I wanted to because of vacations and just learning the program. Plus, this isn't the most exciting topic for me. All I can think about is getting the core classes OVER WITH! I'm ready for the good stuff :).

It is manageable while working full time! I've found that I spend a lot more time on assignments than others. I find that when I write 5 pages, someone else wrote 1 or 2. I need to work on that!

I was wondering, are the two weeks in the summer still mandatory on campus? I'm trying to make sure that I pace myself right so that my pre-requisites for the summer courses are done before that summer (otherwise I'm assuming I would have to wait for the next summer and offset being able to do my clinicals)? Does anyone have any insight on this?

Thanks!!

PS: I'm happy with my choice, but I do wish the school gave a little more information about what to expect. I find myself feeling needy by emailing them all the time!

Just wanted you all to know that I just transferred from St Joseph's to Georgetown. I completed all of core as well as pharmacology. I loved the core classes. I didn't mind teaching myself ethics, leadership, policy, etc. I've been doing that stuff my whole career. I didn't feel prepared to teach myself the core sciences though (Pharm, Assess, and Physiology) the pharm was text and a quiz plus some assignments, but no teaching whatsoever. So for me, I made a change. Fortunately, it looks like 4 of the classes will transfer to Georgetown.

Georgetown is REALLY expensive, but I think it will give me opportunities and possible loan repayment positions.

Anyway, I had been commenting on this thread and wanted to keep you updated.

Thanks for the update Carol...good luck at Georgetown!!

im getting ready to apply for this school but im very skeptical. i only have a 3.0 gpa. is that good enough to get into the fnp program? i was considering just doing th msn portion then later apply for the fnp later but i will have to take extra classes which would be more expenive. does anyone have any tips or suggestions. thanks

You should go ahead and apply. They did change their admission criteria to 4 times per year and they want to attract the "cream of the crop" whatev er that means. The problem with the program is it continues to change as the wind blows! Don't expect to complete the program in less than 2.5 years!!! I'm transferring to another program.

why are you changing prigrams if u dont mind me asking?

St. Joe's changed the clinicals and now it will take 14.25 months to complete.

my goodness!. how long is the program really and why so long?

2.5 years?? I thought 18 months or so.

that doesnt seem that bad but i guess if you were told 18 months then yes it does look bad. i just pray i will be accepted based on my gpa

No, I wasnt told anything. I am calculating it that way if I can complete the clinicals in three semsesters and i can complete a corse every month. I was in anesthesia but had to withdraw so they took most of my core classes so I dont have to many of these. Yet any way.

Did you hear back yet if you got accepted? I just applied yesterday and am hoping to get in. I have a low gpa as well (3.08) and graduated with a bsn from a private college that was not nationally accredited. I am hoping to hear something soon, but wasn't sure how long it will take to hear back
