It was horrible. I would have to wait and hide in the office for the manager to return and when she did she would play oblivious as if I were the crazy one demanding a check for seeing a full load of patients. I felt like I was on a episode of cheaters but now I'm more cautious. This new offer is from a legitimate practice and everything is done professionally. I was just feeling guilty towards my current place that I'll be leaving. My student loans says otherwise!

That is a relief! I did learn a great deal at the NP jobs its just that it didn't work out which sadly is quite common down here in south Florida.

I have a dilemma, Sorry it was a lot on my mind so here it goes.... I've been a nurse for over 12 years; LPN,RN and now onto my new role as a NP. While completing my NP I worked in a nursing home for about 10-11 years and only left last year because they stated hiring a NP wasn't feasible at that time so eager for work experience as a NP I left to the first available job. This job promised me everything; great pay, benefits, and flexibility. Well the first available job turned out to be a joke. I loved the work environment, staff and hours but I didn't like that fact of receiving bounced checks and not getting paid so I left. Since I wasn't paid from the previous NP job I was in the hole financially. I didn't focus on anything else besides providing for my children and paying my bills since I 'am head of household so again, I ran on to another job that looked promising. this job entailed advanced wound care in the home setting of patients. what they didn't tell me was I was scheduled within the same area as another NP which had seniority and she received all the patients first and I got the overflow. I was only seeing about 5-6 patients a week and I was paid only per visit of each person and needless to say, it seemed like I was paid only to pay health insurance and my gas fare. Since I couldn't afford working the last job, I was hired at a local hospital to do case management work which has been the most stable since I left my 10 year nursing position. I don't mind the work, its a great working environment its just that I went to NP school and I yearned for the NP experience, not the clerical option so I put in a application for a NP position. This NP position I applied to will be at another hospital treating one of the top MDs patients at that hospital. They are willing to train and they are a great team. I have jumped 3 jobs already and it is embarrassing. I feel so ashamed to have this on my back with my credentials. I would like to stay at my current hospital but even HR told me NPs are ONLY hired through a Medical Doctor not the hospital directly. I would love the opportunity to work as a NP but doesn't it look selfish and unstable if I leave the case management job to pursue my own dreams. Feeling confused and sad...

Ok I have yet another dilemma here. I was offered a per diem position from my previous clinical preceptor. She's studying for boards and wants me to fill in whenever needed. I immediately said yes to please her, but I'm unsure if I did the right thing. I assumed per diem would be once or twice a week. She wants me Monday through Friday in the evening to see patients as well as complete hospital rounds, on call and nursing homes. I'm not credentialed for the hospital and she wants me to see the patients which I told her no because its illegal. I work a full time position which is a hour away from her and have small children. I really want to help but I think I'm stretching myself too thin.

I almost thought you were speaking about Miami. I was lured into a clinic that told me I would be paid 45/hr. Full time position in this old run down clinic in the inner city. I felt so uncomfortable about the major jump in the beginning ( I should have listen to my gut!) but me being so determined to work as a NP didn't realize the hole I dig for myself. Everything was done so ghetto; they basically got into a van and ran around all of Miami looking for patients and anyone who was willing to get in the van and receive care at the clinic. I really wondered how they billed. It was myself and another NP which I found out I were to replaced. They wanted to fire her and keep me on but didn't tell her because they wanted me to receive some type of training. No supplies what so ever. I completed accu-checks and had no sharp boxes present. I even had a patient with a fractured foot and I didn't even have a ace bandage or anything. In the end I left because I wasn't paid and went berserk on the owner for hiding and giving me bounce checks. I received one full check and after that the clinic owner went missing. Bounce checks everywhere. I was so embarrassed to go to the bank praying they wouldn't say "excuse me ma'am I have to get a supervisor". It was ridiculous and my RN job was already taken for. Its clinics everywhere now and what's really scary is no one has an license! My advice, don't leave your current steady jobs unless its a great deal and its in writing. It isn't worth the pain, suffering and embarrassment I had to go though. I still haven't found a NP job yet.

Hi, I'm in the process of applying to numerous job openings for an ARNP position. There are two positions I'am very interested in. Option one is in a predominately infectious disease based clinic. The hours are from 9-5 I will have no more than about 15 patients a day. Population is 18 and older with a great salary without benefits. I believe the previous NP that was hired to work there will be leaving soon so I' am unsure of the specific support that will be available in the clinic. The staff seems very nice and supportive but again, I'm a newbie. Option 2 is a long term care clinic for the geriatrics in nearby nursing homes. I will have numerous meetings and quality management duties to fulfill and was quoted to have about 8 -10 patients a day. This job wants for me to just jump right on in without any training because they kept asking me if i'm ready to work without any other training other then from my clinical rotations. The clinic has strict hours (8-4;30) and will close promptly at 4;30 which is a good schedule for me and my children. This position will have benefits but salary was not discussed yet. Interview process was pretty new to me; I had to meet with everyone and anyone who worked in that clinic to answer questions about myself and my work ethic. Everyone seemed to like me with the exception of one RN which expressed her concerns in regards to my compentency as a ARNP when the doctor is away. As a new ARNP do you guys recommend anything I can do in the meantime while seraching for jobs that will make me more marketable? I've been a nurse for about 10 years but mostly worked in administration for about 8 years. I know the concepts but I havent practice much until my clinical rotations. Any help is appreciated. Hi, I'am a new ARNP and I have been offered a position in the particular specialty I would love to practice in, which is infectious disease. Its a part time position for 2 days, 16 hours/week with no benefits that has the potential to become a full time position. They only problem is its about an hour away from my home (28.3 miles) so I will drive about 60 miles a day to and from the facility. Its DEEP down in south florida which means the ride home will be about a 2 hour ride. Is this really worth it, putting the mile on the car for two days or should I continue to wait? I havent had any call backs from the numerous positions ive been applying to plus I havent been in clinical practice as a RN over the last 8-9 years. I've just been doing care planning and case management. Any suggestions????? Thank you!

Hi everyone, I have a dilemma. I've been working as a MDS coordinator at a large facility for a couple of years now. I enjoy the people I work with but management is another ordeal we must deal with. It becomes overwhelming at times because if something goes wrong we are blame regardless if we had no involvement. The upside of working hereIs the pay. I feel as if we ate torttortured and treated unfairly the majority of the time so I pursue other employment facilities. I recently interview somewhere and they would like to hire me as the lead coordinator. Its a small facility. About 60 beds and I currently take care of 71 beds. The only downside is the pay. Its 3 dollars less than I make now. I made an analysis. Of what I will make biweekly which seems to be 300 less if I take the new job. Im so complacent and now feel too comfortable where im at even though they treat us bad on occasion. Im very confused And would like any advice on this matter. Thanks.

Group work for each class. Some weeks more may be in one class than the other.the group work assignment is case study format. Study guide is given for pharmacology but none for health assessment. If your lucky to have a teacher that actually completes the Adobe connect and teaches you will be fine.just dont get behind in your readings for both courses.

I currently attend Maryville and I do love it but be prepared to teach yourself! My main instructor is YouTube. Not much teaching. Some will teach some dont. There are adobe connects but some of the time no teaching is conducted. We depend on the students in other classes to upload their Adobe conbects to Facebook so we can learn.without each other we would be lost.group work is a pain.if ur blessed with good group members for the course u should be fine but it never stays the same. I just complete pharmacology and advanced health assessment and no teaching was done at all.network and you should be fine

I recommend Chamberlain. I currently attend Maryville now and we have tons of group work in each class. At Chamberlain there isn't any but then again I believe Maryville requires less courses than Chamberlain. Pray about it and go with suits you better.
