Hospital vs. Clinic
Hi! I would love to offer you some advice because I feel like you just described me completely! I work in a hospital and on nights. I am in my 3rd semester of an FNP program...I was working three 12's but it became i became worried about how I was going to have the time when clinicals start so I took a weekend option spot. I love it except that it's still nightshift and I lose a day sleeping after my shifts! I recently got injuried and have been on light duty for the last month on dayshift and oh my goodness! I like you feel soooo much better! I am more focused and love being able to study in the evening! I never want to go back to nights either and I'm hoping I can make a change. Days are staffed well in my situation too. I am looking elsewhere because of this. If I were you I'd go for the clinic! You being happy and healthy is much more important! Don't worry about needing hospital experience for an FNP program. All of my precepters are NOT in the hospital setting!

Maryville University Summer 2014
I had my webinar last week! I would def like to have a fb page or Google Chrome so that we can all keep in touch. I'm north of St. Louis, MO about an hour from campus. I just received my books for our first class in the mail yesterday. BrittMRN did your friend enjoy the program? So far I've heard pretty good reviews.

Your right the FNP program is 2 years and 7mo. I think the other MSN programs such as the education track is 2 years. I'm excited too!

Congrats!! . I am going to stick with Maryville. I have talked to several others that are finishing the program and none of them had any complaints. I figure it's going to cost me either way and I plan to do the the public service 10yr loan forgiveness plan...it includes nurses! You make 10yrs of on time payments then the rest is forgiven. Keep in touch if you decide to go with Maryville.

Thank you for the information! I'm really excited to start and I like your idea of looking ahead at the pharm/patho classes. It's nice to hear that the start is not as hectic...thanks! Congratulations to you btw!

Wow that's kinda crappy however I have heard that the program is good...since your almost finished can you give any feedback? I currently work full time nights (three 12's)....my advisor says many students work full time throughout the program. Is it doable? I've been told the 1st year is all online and then clinical time starts the 2nd year...any feedback you can give will be greatly appreciated!

Thank you! I'm excited! I graduated from GCU with a 3.87 however my ASN gpa was lower and brought my cumulative to 3.2. It took about 3 weeks after my file was complete to hear back. I also applied at Mizzou and SLU but Maryville got back to me first. A co-worker at the hospital has several friends in the program and they love it. I am a charge nurse on a psych unit but also have some ER experience. The program is still $34,000 however I plan on using the public service loan forgiveness program

Hi! I just found out that I have been accepted to Maryville University's FNP online program starting May 6 2014. I was wondering if there is anyone else starting with me or if anyone that is currently in this program has any advice! :)
