St Joseph College of Maine Reviews

Published

I have done a few searches, but haven't found many responses (or at least newer) re: St. Joseph's nurse practitioner program. I'm considering it because it seems flexible, reasonable, and like a good opportunity from what I can tell. Please share your experiences!! Is $600/credit reasonable for an online program? I feel it's almost worth it so that I can start sooner rather than later!

Thanks in advance :)

Did you feel prepared for your boards once you graduated?

I thought SJC discontinued their FNP program? Hmm, interesting. I graduated last April. I passed boards on the first go around and felt nervous, but prepared. The program itself was incredibly disorganized and that's saying a lot coming from me. I had a total of 4 advisors with many changes during the course of the program. They changed the deadline for clinical one semester and told me I was the only student that didn't receive the email stating the new deadline. When I emailed the dean of nursing with evidence of another student also saying she didn't receive an email, I was accused of being "insubordinate" and another email will be grounds for dismissal from the program. I'm sure other students had a better experience but the few I came across were also frustrated with the changes. I will say the actual instructors and all 4 advisors, with the exception of Laurie Lambert (handling the clinical side of the program) and the Dean of nursing, were great. The course load is probably different now. It was self paced when I started, which changed towards the end of the program. During my last semester I received an email saying that the FNP program was being discontinued but I didn't know why. I know they didn't have a director for the FNP program for a long time and just assumed it was because of that. Maybe the program is better now? Good luck!

I guess according to an advisor, the program was cancelled and they just started it up again recently. I just emailed the advisor asking why they cancelled the program and re opened it. But I'm assuming it has to do with all the changes. I've read lots of posts about students complaint a lot about how disorganized it was and how much work there was compared to other programs.

Did they at all help with clinical placements?

Did they have proctored exams set up?

How long did it take to complete the program?

Did you take any prep courses for the boards?

Thanks for replying! I haven't found any recent posts with students in the FNP program so all o have to base this program on is students from 2012-2014 time frame...:/

Just make sure they're not losing accreditations. I read that in another review. I'm sure they are better now. I remember how excited I was when I started this program and I'm really excited for you!
