St Joseph College of Maine Reviews

I have done a few searches, but haven't found many responses (or at least newer) re: St. Joseph's nurse practitioner program. I'm considering it because it seems flexible, reasonable, and like a good opportunity from what I can tell. Please share your experiences!! Is $600/credit reasonable for an online program? I feel it's almost worth it so that I can start sooner rather than later!

I just got an email from GPS program at St Joses, that they changing admittion process for FNP and now will require GRE test. I am in the program and taking second class ( leadership) .. Does anybody knows if it applies to people who already started? I am concerned because I think my advisor told me that I need to get through two first classes ( informatics and leadership) to be actually admitted tl the program.

That email takes effect 7-1-12. You should be ok. Check with the advisor though. You should be coming in under the rules of 11-12 school year and exempt for the Gre. I really wish they weren't bringing the Gre into the picture.

I just noticed that SJCME is not accepting new students for the rest of 2012, effective 3/2012. They'll start reviewing applications in 01/2013. I found that interesting... I wonder why this is? Noticed that for about 5 minutes they required GRE, but it's not up there anymore. I guess they're changing some things in admissions.

saw that too.. I think they may be too back logged with applications and requiring cohorts for clinicals. It was obviously too good to last.

Thanks to Tracy for the update on clinicals; I am starting the policy class and have 1 more didactic class to go. Was concerned about the GRE requirement and called the school, it does not apply to students already accepted. Feel confident that the school is accredited and we can take the Board Certification. Still feel fortunate to be accepted by St. Josephs. Because of Tracy's info now know, it is best to start looking for preceptors in family/urgent care initially. Still not sure regarding the cohort issues, does that translate into a group of several students who have preceptors? as an individual student, does that mean a delay until several more students have found their preceptors? Hoping we can keep in touch and continue sharing experiences. So far so good with myself, however have not entered that clinical realm as of yet.

Where exactly was your cohort formed? how many students does your cohort consist of and what did you have to do prior to entering the cohort?

To answer canyon forest questions.... Yes you may have to wait for a cohort to " catch up to you". A cohort is made up of six students who have their clinical preceptors accepted by the school and contracts signed. Some people waited three months this spring for a cohort to be ready to start. When u get down to the last theory class before clinicals, contact the clinical director about getting the paperwork for clinicals. The earlier the better. They have said this fall, cohorts will be starting monthly b/c there are many students who will be ready to start clinicals.

sorry to get back here so late, thanks for the info canchaser, because I would not have contacted the clinical advisor without your input...that is why it is a good thing for this thread, lots of details.......how is your clinical going? glad to know I should be getting things in order with the 4th and last didactic class....how are the clinicals going for others at St. Joseph's??? any suggestions, comments, feedback???

I had a few issues with the policy course, papers graded late and such...contacted my advisor who really came through for me...

Hi. I just found out that I did not get accepted into St Joseph's College of Maine online FNP program. I have to admit, I feel a bit mislead. I had applied last year and got and "acceptance" letter from the school stating that if I took two of their graduate nursing classes and recieved A's in each I would be formally accepted into the program. I did take the two classes and I did recieve A's in each. Had I known that this "acceptance" was really not an acceptance, I would have continued to apply to other schools. I feel like I have wasted a year and spent a lot of money for nothing. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I was hoping to take this route also....I have a BA in Communications and an ADN...why would they not accept you into the FNP program?
