Spring 2011 UT Health Sciences Nursing Hopefuls

Published

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

What do you all plan on wearing to the interview? I know it's business attire, but not sure if I'm going with the pant suit or skirt suit.

Hey everyone. I interviewed last year and I didn't think it was all that bad. I wore a tan pencil skirt and button down shirt and I have to say that I was the only one wearing a light colored skirt. All the girls were dark suits and the guys were in regular suits. I was accepted so I don't think that it hurt to be wearing something a little different from anyone. We were given a writing prompt and some questions about computer skills, like can you unzip a file, etc. We were also given a schedule and in the interview we were asked how we'd manage it. The interview asked some pretty generic questions about ourselves. It was really long, I remember being there about 3-4 hours. You can bring a snack and most people brought resumes I believe. This is about all I can remember.

@speakthetruth - thanks for the helpful interview information. How much time did they spend with you in your actual face-to-face interview?

I know this will be a long process and from what I'm seeing in previous threads, we won't really know anything until beginning - mid November. I'm excited, nervous and anxious at the same time.

Hey everyone!!

I'm made some comments when this thread first opened up, and have been following the comments/posts since then. I too have just received my interview email today 9/3 at 11:40am. I am scheduled for 9/16 at NOON. Is anyone else scheduled around that date and time??

I think someone else mentioned before that we are a pretty intimidating bunch, all with very competitive numbers. I am certainly hoping that we're the few overachieving nerds that will all be accepted. I heard UT takes about 75 applicants for the spring semester.

Here are my stats:

Nursing GPA- 3.89

Science GPA- 4.0

Undergrad GPA- 3.79 (BBA in Marketing; Minor in MIS)

HESI- 97%

Those of you who have applied or been accepted before, please share any other interviewing tips (writing sample, face-to-face time, questions asked, etc...) as I'm sure we'll all be very grateful for them. Thanks, and good luck to everyone else!!

Hi Everpark, I took my Hesi on June 27 at the Harwin location in Houston. However, my UT link didn't show as my scores received until mid-August. And, I don't know if this helps at all, but my last name is near the beginning of the alphabet. Maybe they're going by that? I also think they do interviews in waves, so I'm sure more interview letters will be sent out soon. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, it finally showed up on file today..now just have to wait. I've finished all my prereqs yet they have that my transcript file is incomplete. I assume it's because I was signed up to take a technical writing course in the fall for UTA, but I dropped it.

So did I! I'm taking technical writing at HCC because it is less expensive and a spot opened up. UTA offers every prerequisite online. Most are only 5 weeks long. I highly recommend UTA's online courses for their convenience.

You probably got my spot! I dropped it within the last two weeks with Downey! UTA has STILL not accepted me for just entrance to the school...and I applied in April! They are too slow...so I'm nixing that plan.

@Katie - The actual interview only took me like 10 minutes and I was so suprised when I was done. There were other girls in my group that interviewed for 30 minutes, but I think that 15 minutes was about average.

Hey jpchouston,

Are you currently taking any UTA courses? I applied with UTA for the Spring 2011 session as well and I'm taking Pharm and Patho starting Sept 20th. I'm currently taking the N1335 Intro to Nursing course and I didn't know what to do for the Fall - take the courses or not take them. UTA is my backup plan (although I like certain aspects of the online program over the traditional program) and in order to start in the spring, I had to take the two classes.

The UTA online program actually works better for my personal life. I have a medically fragile child that requires skilled nursing in order for me to leave the house and they don't always show up. Taking the prerequisites at Lonestar was stressful enough and I had very understanding professors. I feel like I'm wasting time and money if I take the Pharm and Patho courses but really what choice do I have. In addition, I took chemistry I and technical writing this summer because UTA has different requirements than UT medical center. I'm also worried about the clinical assignments for the UTA program. I want to be at the medical center and the academic advisor mentioned some hospitals to me that I've never heard of.

In the end, the decision may not be left up to me anyway. Do you have an interview yet? My interview is 9/15 @ noon and I was wondering if yours was the same day. Seems like others have posted about interviews around that day and several on that day.

Do you have any inside scoop on the UTA program?

Thanks.

eyrehead,

No interview at UT because I'm applying for the accelerated program which starts in the summer. Unfortunately I don't know anything about UTA beyond what you know. We're taking the same courses. I'm going to finish the intro course this weekend and then order my books for patho and pharm.

I applied to TAMU Corpus Christi's eline program. I know less about it than UTA.

I really need Lone Star Kingwood to resume the Quest program. It's the most practical option for my circumstances.

today i received a notice for an interview via USPS, so those of you that have not received an email yet be patient your letter may still be on the way.
