U.S.A. Texas

I am a UT Houston hopeful applying for the traditional and accelerated nursing program. I will complete my science prereqs (A&P 1/2) in the summer. I will finish up with Micro and Chem in the fall. I am so focused right now. Anyone else out there? :)

Specializes in interested in psych nursing.

I know this thread is a little bit old, but I have a couple of questions for you guys who are now attending UT and commuting from the Woodlands. Have ya'll been using the Woodlands Express, and if so, how has it worked out? How many days a week are you actually on campus or in clinicals? How bad is the commute? I am still working on a couple of science prerequisites here in San Antonio and plan to apply to UT-H for the traditional BSN program Spring 2012 once I finish up in May. My family lives in the Woodlands and I'm planning to move back there in the Fall. Just curious as to how bad the commute is, and wondering if it is feasible to live in the Woodlands and complete this program.....that is, if I am lucky enough to get in....I know UT is extremely competitive and of course plan to apply to other schools as well. I also know the job market is very tight, but I really want to raise my kids there, close to my family, and not here in San Antonio. Any feedback/insight into life as a nursing student surviving (or not!) that long commute would be appreciated!

I live in The Woodlands/Magnolia area - the commute has not been too bad. I'm commuting with two other girls. There are others in The Woodlands area that commute together as well. This is my first semester and the commute is much better than I anticipated - so far at least.

My advise - find someone to share the commute cost. There are many options that you can explore once you are accepted but don't let the distance deter you. This is a great school and wonderful atmosphere - I Love it!!

Thank you for your advice! This thread is really helpful!

Hi All,

I am not new, I have been on threads from 2 previous semesters but could not remember my log in so I created a new one. I first want to say to everyone who got in CONGRATS to you all! Second I would love to tell Delgadido that nothing is guaranteed...this is my THIRD semester to apply starting in Sept 2009. I have watched friends of mine get accepted and are about to graduate this next semester. It is discouraging but I am SO happy for them. And no they are not guaranteed a job anywhere. Lol! I have friends that have graduated from UTHSC-Houston and are now preceptors for their students. My ex husband works w/the previous president from UTHSC and I have friends that are phd's and work there now. So as you can see, NOTHING is certain except death and taxes as mentioned previously. FINALLY after all that and being very very VERY patient...yesterday morning my holds changed and this morning I saw the most blessed thing ever

"You have been admitted for the term above"

It was unbelievable because I have waited a year and 3 interviews for this opportunity. So for you guys still waiting for an answer, hang in there and be patient...it will happen and for those who have your answers now, take complete advantage of it and don't take one second for granted because it really is a select opportunity.

If it gives some of you hope here are my stats:

Nursing prereq GPA: 3.42

Science GPA: 3.5

HESI: 92

Critical Thinking for Nursing on HESI: 958

10 yrs medical experience

6 different volunteer opportunities over 5 years.

I have realized it doesn't matter tremendously what ur scores as to how they choose, its all about heart, persistence and will to make it through and to make a difference. Scores and grades are just a piece of it.

Good luck to everyone and I VERY much look forward to meeting ALL of my future classmates in December at orientation.

Wow, thank you so much for your inspirational story. It must have been hard, but your patience, hard work and God's will made it all happen.

Wishing you the best.

I have also applied for the UT Houston generic program begining in the Spring 2011. I have already taken the HESI, and I have taken all prereq classes except for Chem, which I am currently enrolled in. I am still waiting to hear if I have been excepted into the program. Good luck to everybody. Please post if you hear anything. I check my UTLink every morning when I get up. I did speak to the registrars office and they advised that letters of acceptance will go out in November. However, when I applied for the Fall 2010 I got a rejection letter within a couple of weeks of the close of the application deadline. I hope no news is good news right now.

So if you applied for Spring 2011, did you get in???

Still do not know. I was told letters will go out in November.

Did you apply for spring 2011 or 2012? I think it was confusing because you posted 2011 and that semester has already been completed.

I think jofoste2 is referring to Spring 2012....don't know. There is another thread dedicated to Spring 2012. jofoste2, you should post your stats there so everyone can see each other's progress.

OOOOPss Sorry I am new to this site and I am a hopefull for Spring 2012.

Has anyone taken AP AP2 and Micro online with UTA? How are the classes and coursework?
