Hello all!
I am a pre-nursing student at Tarrant County College hoping to get into the Spring 2018 ADN program. I have found allnurses to be extremely helpful in regards to information about student stats and program requirements.
My current stats are:
API: B
APII: A
Microbiology: In Progress
HESI A2: Scheduled next month
I'm currently studying Evolve's HESI preparation book. I wanted to create this discussion for questions, answers, and encouragement for Tarrant County College Spring 2018 hopefuls. I know it's a little early but hey, I'm excited. :)
How long before submitting your application should you take all of your shots?
The application requires you to have your TDAP, Hep A, Hep B, MMR, and Varicella before you submit. Here is the bolded part straight from the packet:
"NOTE: In order to complete the required Hepatitis B and Hepatitis A series by the first day of classes – Spring 2018, individuals must have received the first Hepatitis B and the first Hepatitis A injections by 7/1/2017 and documentation submitted with their application materials. The series or a positive titer must be documented by 1/1/2018 Students with incomplete immunizations cannot attend clinical and are in jeopardy of not continuing in the nursing program."
The Flu, TB, Physical, CPR, etc. these are all POST admission requirements.
You guys have some pretty good grades. I'm actually just getting started. Ive been out of school for a while,so I decided to just take A&P 1 and Algebra. At first I was going to take Micro and A&P,but became hesitant because I want to do well in A&P.
My question is, did you combine Micro with either A&P? Do you feel it was easier to take with A&P1 or A&P 2?

I personally did not take Micro with either A&P. With the pressure on to make As in these classes, I didn't think that was a smart thing to do. I would suggest taking these 3 science prerequisites with other "easier" classes, such as English, History, Psychology, or Humanities/Fine Arts. Just my two cents. Good luck to you!
Thank you for your response :) I think it may be better if I do spread them out as well. It seems like the course load would be doable, but extremely hectic. I was just debating since I don't have children yet, I thought maybe I should use the free time to just tackle both while I could freely. Lol
Thanks for your reply Misstiffany1106 and congrats on the fast-track program! I'm hoping to start Jan. 2018. The adviser told me it will be Spring 2018, Summer I 2018, Summer II 2018, Fall 2018, and Spring 2019 for regular track. Can't wait to get in. I just made an A on both my Micro lecture exam and Lab exam. If I keep it up I'll have an A in Micro. What has been the hardest part of the program for you so far?
Oops - this was meant to go with the above question:
You'll actually go Spring 2018, Summer II 2018, Fall 2018, Spring 2019 and Fall 2019 - you'll graduate Dec 2019.
Those students that start Fall 2017 will attend Summer I, you'll attend Summer II, but should be given the opportunity to switch summer sessions if needed :)
So sorry about the multiple posts lol. I'm a current TCC Nursing student and am happy to answer any questions :). I applied last summer (just like you guys) and started in the Spring 2017. Summer II (Mental Health) is almost over and I'll start Adult (Med-Surg I) this fall. Fingers crossed for everyone here!!
How is the program going so far?
Haha - it's going! It's harder than I thought in some ways and easier than I feared in many others. I've learned so much, grown a ton and am making life-long friendships along the way. Be prepared to hit the ground RUNNING. Now is the time to get your life in order/organized so you can focus on everything that's thrown at you.

Submitted my application yesterday! Super excited. Dana said as of yesterday there has been around 100 applications. And that it will likely be end of September until we know. Other than that she didn't say much. Y'all let me know if she says anything else when y'all submit. Now the waiting game.
