Spring 2011 Sem. State and UCF-SSC Concurrent Program

Published

anyone else here looking to get into either seminole state's spring 2011 program or the concurrent as-bsn ucf-ssc concurrent program for spring 2011? i will be applying soon myself, and would like to see if there are other such applicants on here. maybe we can help each other! :nurse:

looking forward to meeting new people. :D

thanks for sharing about the books, i might do that too. i took a class with an older version book and did just fine... $5.00? is it a special vendor on ebay or just bid?

jacksonleo, i only buy the prior version (1 older) . i due a search on ebay of the require book, then take a look at the current edition number and do another search for the prior edition. make sure you list them by 'lower price'

then keep them in your watch list (make sure they include the cd if book came with one) i don't bid on them until a few hours before bid is over. usually pay like 99cents plus $4 shipping...etc

eg. for fundamentals: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayisapi.dll?viewitem&item=280590097200&sspagename=strk:mewnx:it

this edition they just used it for people starting this fall 2010 but changed them for spring 2011

this seller has both books and the dvd's

dosage calculations: i read in reviews that is exact same book...will see

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayisapi.dll?viewitem&rt=nc&nma=true&item=220699271849&si=hacprygc3qf4n0qyl7bvc0zksh8%253d&viewitem=&sspagename=strk%3amewnx%3ait

i also bought the recommended ones in older version -

i will buy the new versions of ucf books : physical examination & health assesment[color=#ffffff]en

[color=#ffffff]and comprehensive handbook of laboratory & diagnostic tests

[color=#ffffff]

[color=#ffffff]like i said before this may not be for everybody, but i will give it a try

and i will not mind buying the newer edition if i see that it will affect me in anyway.

it's my experience that when i asked teachers if the previous edition will work

they always want you to have the newer version. however, i done well and kept a good gpa

with the prior versions : )

I haven't recieved it yet. I ordered it 3 days ago and I ordered XXS. When I read your postings,I was worried because I am 34C and XXS may be too small for me. I'm working tomorrow(Saturday) untill 4 pm. Any other time during the weekend is OK for me. Even tomorrow mornig up to 10 am. Whenever it is convinient for you. And Nestadren, could you post the link for the books one more time, please. RedCarnation posted it for me, but for some reason it did not work. Thank you.

Here is the link again: http://www.bkstr.com/

hope it works

Nestadren, Kompozit: I was thinking about you when I got my shirt, but figured you had already returned it. Yes, lets do that. I'm home tomorrow till 6pm

and Sunday all day till 4pm - Monday I'm home all day.

I have emailed you my phone number already.

and will PM you my address for both of you in a bit.

Sounds good. I have the BLS class today (need to go to sleep!) and some things to take care of afterwards, but could possibly do it tomorrow evening. Sunday or Monday could work (have class Monday late A.M.). I will get back to you tomorrow.

Has anyone else taken the BLS course? What was your experience with it like?

Hi everyone! I am new to the discussion board but will also be starting the concurrent BSN program in January. I am excited & nervous! I wish I would've known about this sooner because there is alot of good info on here that would've helped me! Anyways I'm still getting my immunization paperwork completed. My doctor's office was giving me a hard time too! I went to Uniformity after I got fingerprinted on Wednesday & got the pants & polo but I ordered the top/jacket through the website. I ordered a small & it sounds like it's going to be too big - great! Looks like that will be getting exchanged. I am just curious about when clinicals are going to start. Does anyone know if they're going to be all day, every Saturday or Sunday or both? I know we'll find out at orientation but I'm just curious. I'll be working during the week as well as some of you so I'm just trying to prepare myself as much as possible ahead of time!! UGH! Well I look forward to getting to meet everyone at orientation next week! :)

Legallyblond3, Welcome!!! Glad you joined us :p :p

I'm excited & nervous too!!!

Welcome Legallyblond3! :yeah:I heard that clinicals are every other week but we will find out for sure at orientation. I posted the rest of the schedule in a previous post if you want to take a look at it.

Thanks RedCarnation. I usually get my stuff from Amazon but am an ebay user too. I will figure it out after orientation though to see what they have to say. I usually sell my books on Amazon after I am done with them and get the majority of the money I paid back so it in reality I pay very little for them...

BTW, let's decide how to recognize each other at the orientation. Either we all wear something or meet at a particular place before the orientation. Something simple like a rubber band/ponytail holder on your wrist or something like that. We are probably going to need to do study groups or lab partnering so we have a GOOD head start since we are already working together... :nurse:

Meeting at a certain place sounds good :heartbeat :p :heartbeat

Perhaps cafeteria? I know I will be wearing gym cloth (long pants and t-shirt).

any other suggestions?

BTW - Did everyone email their 4 letter code from

the Keirsey Temperament Sorter?

Wonder if they are using those codes to form groups in orientation :nurse:

Yes, the cafeteria is great. I sent the results of my keirsey test the same day. Did not want to keep piling stuff on my desk. They will probably match us with the opposite. Supposedly in nursing school, you rely a whole lot on your classmates so here we go! I am super independent but I do well in teams so I am ready for anything. Just want to get to the ultimate goal of being a nurse in one piece.

RedCarnation: I read in your post that you were out, I will contact you tomorrow well before 4 about trying on the uniform top, if we can't make it maybe we could do it Monday, although tomorrow is much better because I'd like to send it back and have it taken care of along with my books that need returning. I think we might both need a size between small and extra small! Too bad the top is not one that had half sizes...........

LegallyBlond3: Welcome to the boards!! Congrats on your acceptance! Looking forward to meeting you also!

I procrastinated about sending in my temperament sorter but I did get it in on time. I really hope it is used only for entertainment and nothing more.

Back to studying......!

If I am right, the BLS class is the CPR class. I took it at UCF this Thursday, it was great. The teacher let us go after 1,5 hrs and it was easy. But everybody there has taken the class before and they all said that usually the teachers use the every bit of the time. And thank you Red Carnation for letting me try your top today. It was nice to meet you and I hope to work together well for futute.

Kompozit, are you sure the one you took was certified by the American Heart Association and not the Red Cross? Our program asks for AHA specifically, and I have read on these boards about students having to retake for this reason. The reason I ask is because I was aware that UCF taught the Red Cross version. Just something you may want to check on. :)

I asked when I called and yes, it is approved by AHA. I also checked my card and it has the sign from American Heart Association. So I hope to be OK.
