anyone else here looking to get into either seminole state's spring 2011 program or the concurrent as-bsn ucf-ssc concurrent program for spring 2011? i will be applying soon myself, and would like to see if there are other such applicants on here. maybe we can help each other! :nurse:

looking forward to meeting new people. :D

Hey All

Spent the weekend sore from all my shots lol...I had a localized vaccine reaction to the tetorifice which was fun.

got the hep b shot, tetorifice shot and tb test done last friday and had my varicella titer and drug test done at quest that saturday...had the dr throw in a cbc/chem/t4 lol mights well.

went to uniformity today after work.

i am 5'7 130 lbs and got the small in the loose fit pants, i didnt like how the classic fit tapered at the ankles

so ordered 2 of those and a jacket in a medium since the small was tight around the back.

also got medium polos the small fit fine but was too short hard to tuck in.

btw uniformity is the same place that u are ordering ur polos from so u dont have to wait till orientation to get them. She had mediums in stock and gave me 2 on the spot, i just had to order the pants and the jacket.

anyone one know what the zip up scrub top is for? clinicals? I really wish I didnt have to order it..ugh

anyways the site says to order a xxs but i am going for the xs to factor in shrinkage..

man nursing school is adding up and havent even started yet lol, between all the checks (bckgd, finger, drug), dr visits and uniform costs...whew

good thing my sister decided not to go to nursing school and gave me her electronic stethoscope. I have to use a modified version since I am hard of hearing and wear hearing aids. fun stuff!

Headed for fingerprinting at 9 am tomorrow!

Whitewlf00, yes you are so right about the costs!! I have finished paying for all the paperwork, excluding the fingerprinting to be done this morning. Speaking of which...I should get some sleep for.

I've been up and just finished ordering seven, yes seven, of the required textbooks for SSC and UCF courses. It came to $294 on amazon.com. I hate waiting to order it from or buy it from the school bookstore, it's always so much more.

It looks like though, that we might just be better buying our SSC Fundamentals of Nursing texts/R.Q. materials there. The text was just published on November 15th, and the publisher's website says it should be available to order online in December. Here is the link: http://www.fadavis.com/wilkinson_pkg/Wilkinson_text_pkg_portal_2nd_ed.cfm

For the package, it looks to be about the same price either through the publisher or bookstore..and since it's so new, not likely to be found online for cheaper.

Well...I think I have now ordered all of the textbooks, not including the Fundamentals package. Oh, there is also some sort of clicking device we are supposed to buy...I think this is it: http://www.amazon.com/Icount-Audience-Response-Systems-RCRF-01/dp/B0018RRSOU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1290501050&sr=8-1

I am going to wait on that purchase. Seven texts total (and this was the minimum required, not the recommended texts which I did want to get), not including another, most expenseive, which looks to be about $300 alone is a lot for a single term of courses! But it is for two programs...that makes me feel better at least...sort of.

I was excited about most of the books/looking forward to reading them...with the exception of UCF course NUR3806 required texts being APA (American Psychological Association) style guide and APA workbook. Sister to the much-loved MLA writing format....NOT!! Oh well...one course later down the road for us concurrent students is a nursing research course, so I'm sure this is where this all will come into play.

Went to my doctor's today (well yesterday now) and got the TDAP, varicella titer, TB test, and my second Gardisil/HPV immunization (not required). Two pokes in each arm. I'm sore now too.

Fingerprinting @ 10...really should get some sleep now.

I am having such a hard time with my doctor's office. I just had my physical exam and paperwork signed by the doctor for my UCF- daytona acceptance at the end of October. Now I couldn't talk to the doctor and the stuff at the office is giving me hard time. I've been there 3 times already and he hasn't sign it yet. I think they are confused because of the page 3. They expect to see another form for the medical release and the doctor refused to sign the one I have. I do not know what to do with them. I am going tomorrow again to try to speak with the doctor. Any suggestions?

When I got the immunization form taken care of for UCF (not the nursing program forms), my doctor and P.A. also refused to sign the UCF immunization form. There was a special spot for his/her signature and required stamp, but they would sign only the blue form. My best guess would be that they are just weary about putting their signature on anything that can be altered by the patient or is not "official" enough...can't really think of anything else.

I go back to dr's tomorrow to get my TB skin test read and varicella titer signed off on, and my P.A. said if those were fine she would sign off. Hopefully, it works out.

If your doctor is willing to look at a computer with you (the providers I see always bring in laptops, and my P.A. actually researched the fit test with me...we discussed stethoscopes as well! She said the fit test is a very new requirement, and that she was due to have her very first one soon), maybe you can bring up the website and actually show them what forms you are working with. Good luck.

I had so many forms to fill in.... now I ended up with one

and I don't remember wher is suppose to go to...

can anyone help? It's a single sheet of paper

I have that one sitting over here too. I think it is just another form that we must fax to American DataBank (via the compliance website). I think, but I'm not completely sure.

I just got my zip up top from Meridy's in the mail and have tried it on. I ordered a size small, but I am really wishing I had ordered an XS. The website prompted me to order XXS based on my measurements, but since I had tried on a decently fitting similar top in Uniformity that was a small, that is what I ordered. I will probably be looking at their exchange policy...it's not just a little loose, so it's not something I'd expect shrinking to account for. I would want the top to be slightly loose though so I don't know...

Has anyone else received their uniforms yet?

Also got one of my textbooks in the mail- not the most interesting of them (APA guide). Ended up ordering the previous edition (5th instead of 6th). I figured not much would change with APA style...

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! Only a couple more weeks left of this term and then we can get some relaxation in before we really get started!:nurse::D

Nestraden, thanks for info.

After reading about your zip up top...now I'm glad I ordered XS - the website was also prompting me to get XXS.

I ordered the Dosage Calculation previous edition, since I read couple coments that new ed is almost identical. Can't wait to get some of my books this coming week!

BTW it was nice meeting you at fingerprinting!!

Hey everyone!

I have been busy with Thanksgiving and Black Friday that I haven't been on here in a while. I am having a hard time trying to find somebody to sign on my immunization paper also. I am going to get my physical this week so hopefully my doctor will sign it then.

I got my uniform top yesterday and it fits perfect, I also ordered the jacket and it fits too! They are both itchy so hopefully after a wash they will be a little bit more comfortable.

I decided to get the Littmann Classic II. The Lightweight was nice but I heard that the sound isn't as good as the others.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend! :nurse:

After much research I am going to order the Littman Classic II as well. From my research and reviews that I have read, the lighter colors like pink or seafoam should be avoided in that they get all sorts of ink stains on them that won't come out. I am going for a darker color. Amazon has pretty good prices.

I am still not sure what Littman to get myself. When I got my immunizations, my P.A. showed me her stetho and we were talking about the Littmans. She had one of the master cardiology series Littmans...I don't plan on going to that level but she did show me the difference with hers. It rotated to either side with a quick turn, with one side for more general listening and the other for specific. This was different from the lower end ones that require additional pressure to discern more specific sounds. I'm not sure at what point the Littman switches over from one type to the next, could be a master cardio thing only, but I did like it.

I do really like the ocean blue color- it is my favorite color. I did read on here that the light colors do get dirty a lot easier...however I also read that someone contacted the company and was told that while the warranty still applied (usually 3 yrs I think), they would change the color tubing at no charge- even if you were just sick of the same color. So I will probably start out with my favorite. :)

RedCarnation- glad the info helped. I will be emailing them to make the exchange today.

For other concurrent students, here is something you might also want to read:

http://www.nursing.ucf.edu/images/pdf/10-11_CON-UGhandbook.pdf (UCF College of Nursing handbook)

I am just so excited to start! I can't possibly be done with these last prereq courses any sooner!! Two more weeks! Then I can start my reading (most of the textbooks should be here within a couple days) and review my A&P, med term, and whatever else!

How are you all coming along? I just about finished the process of paperwork. I just need to fax in all the forms.

Orientation will be here shortly! Hard to think about now...in the midst of all these exams. We will have to come up with something to find eachother.

RedCarnation- again I am glad to have met you @ the fingerprinting appointment!

Thanks for the UCF Nursing handbook info -- pretty interesting!

I finally got all my forms faxed and approved - they still need my 2nd dose of MMR before they remove

the hold - will get those on Dec 16th or so.

Got my Fundamentals of Nursing book, but I need to study for my current classes first, can't wait to be

done with this semester.

I got a few more forms on my email today...

Kind of hard to concentrate... with forms, final exams and all the Xmas shopping I still have to do...

seems like my days are flying by.:uhoh3:
