Spring 2014 Samuel Merritt University BSN direct-entry Nursing Program

Published

Hello everyone!

I will be applying to SMU's direct-entry BSN program for the Spring of 2014 and was wondering if anyone is going to be applying for that term as well. I met with a counselor about my prereqs and I have about 6 prereqs in progress for the fall, and 2 to be taken over the summer. I asked her if it would hurt my chances since its a large number of class (with physio and developmental psych among them) and she said it won't and that it's normal since that happens to most people. They will base me on what I have already done. I have 2 C's and the rest are all A's and B's. If I do well in my summer classes, I'm looking at around a 3.4 :( I know it's not that great of a GPA... But the counselor said that they will be looking at more than just my GPA (btw, the counselors there are really nice as oppose to the school that I asked for help and told me that I should reconsider nursing and find another degree since my grades weren't that well). I have volunteer experience and hope to complete my 100hrs by the deadline. I also hope to have my volunteer supervisor and microbio prof as my recommendations. And she said that they look for mainly the reading comprehension and math sections of the TEAS-- must meet or exceed national average so I hope to be studying this summer for that as well. Anyone who has been accepted have any tips on what they did to get in? What should I do to be a competitive candidate? If this doesn't work out what else schools will overlook my overall GPA? (My overall GPA with SMU's prereqs is significantly higher than my overall at my school right now, which is only a 3.00.. sad, I know). How to write an exceptional essay to stand out? Also anyone else applying for that term? What're your stats? Thanks in advanced and good luck to everyone! :)

Anyone have any updates? I'm so anxious.

hey hun, I also applied to SAMU for the BSN Spring 2014 program. I am trying to get my work hours situated and I was wondering if you can tell me how many days a week you had class like the first semester of the program? And like from what time to what times would it be? Will we ever have class like for 2 hrs on one day or do they cluster it all on one day? Is it like 2 days of class and 1 day clinical the first semester?

thanks

Nope.. haven't heard anything...

No, not yet. Previous years they heard back around Nov 11th.

First semester looked like this:

Mon: 9-10:50 1-3:50pm

Tuesday: 9-11:50 1-3:50

Wednesday: 9-11:50

Then you had one day of clinical on some other day of the week. My clinical day was Sunday, but it was different for others. Hope that helps!

It is now November! For those awaiting word for SMU's BSN Spring 2014, please keep us updated!!!

Hey, just wanted to let you guys know that I got my acceptance email today. Good luck to everyone who hasn't yet received theirs yet!

Hi Mary, since you're currently in the BSN program right now I want to ask you what else I need to do after submitting my deposit. Will they mail something to me or...? And do you know when we find out what our schedule is like? Thank you for your time!

Hey Alex! Congrats on your acceptance!!! YAAAYY!!!

Nope. Once you got your deposit in, you'll just be waiting for emails on further instructions. I believe we got most of our info at the end of November. I remember feeling really rushed since classes started January and I felt like there wasn't a ton of time to get everything togrther..

Just make sure to check your junk mail frequently, and make sure they have the right email on file..

CONGRATS AGAIN!!! :)

Congrats Alex! I was wondering if you were transferring from a community college or a sister school?

Thank you Mary! :) And Roro, I transferred from a community college.

Lmk if you have any other questions, Alex.

I hope to hear about more acceptance e-mails soon!

Alex, the time stamp is always off on this website. Did you receive your acceptance e-mail late last night?
