  1. Hi! I'm sorry to hear that same thing the counselor told me was that it wouldn't hurt either so I'm taking another year to have all my prereqs done... I'm also thinking of retaking classes I got Cs in because I have so much time. I heard there are more seats in the spring? What was your gpa and teas score if you don't mind me asking? I find it discouraging that they would say it wouldn't hurt your application but at the same time they do look at those and consider those who have them all completed... Which makes sense because they know how competent you are. It's just that false hope that it wouldn't hurt sucks.
  2. Hi!! Unfortunately I am not. Are you? What kind of gpa and teas last semester if you don't mind me asking?
  3. Hello everyone! I will be applying to SMU's direct-entry BSN program for the Spring of 2014 and was wondering if anyone is going to be applying for that term as well. I met with a counselor about my prereqs and I have about 6 prereqs in progress for the fall, and 2 to be taken over the summer. I asked her if it would hurt my chances since its a large number of class (with physio and developmental psych among them) and she said it won't and that it's normal since that happens to most people. They will base me on what I have already done. I have 2 C's and the rest are all A's and B's. If I do well in my summer classes, I'm looking at around a 3.4 I know it's not that great of a GPA... But the counselor said that they will be looking at more than just my GPA (btw, the counselors there are really nice as oppose to the school that I asked for help and told me that I should reconsider nursing and find another degree since my grades weren't that well). I have volunteer experience and hope to complete my 100hrs by the deadline. I also hope to have my volunteer supervisor and microbio prof as my recommendations. And she said that they look for mainly the reading comprehension and math sections of the TEAS-- must meet or exceed national average so I hope to be studying this summer for that as well. Anyone who has been accepted have any tips on what they did to get in? What should I do to be a competitive candidate? If this doesn't work out what else schools will overlook my overall GPA? (My overall GPA with SMU's prereqs is significantly higher than my overall at my school right now, which is only a 3.00.. sad, I know). How to write an exceptional essay to stand out? Also anyone else applying for that term? What're your stats? Thanks in advanced and good luck to everyone! :)
  4. hi @futureERnurse89!! i know this post is old and you're probably busy with school and such, but i was wondering what you did to get into those schools??? GPA wise, volunteer, recommendations... whatever you did that helped you. those are my dream schools! and it would be of help to know what you did so that i can have that as my goal :)
  5. Thank you! But I am not applying for their ABSN, but for their BSN. Im also trying to see a counselor there to talk to them and stuff. Do you think the same goes for their BSN program?
  6. Hi! Thanks for all your help. I was wondering if you could help me with tips on how to get into USFs program? Either through here (I don't have pm or email?) I really want to get in there because I haven't completed all prereqs for SMU and at the time of the application when I apply this fall for spring, ill have between 3-5 classes in progress. Will that hurt my chances? Have you heard back from SMU yet?
  7. Hi everyone, I recently posted a question but I've narrowed my choices down to University of San Francisco, Samuel Merritt University and Dominican University. As well as CCSF and CSM. So far I have a Cumulative GPA of 3.00. For SMU, they include all GE's and science prerequisites and classes I took such as Intro to Philosophy, Nutrition, Psychology, I received a C. Other classes aren't as bad and I plan to take Anatomy in the summer and Physio in the fall. Will those C's hurt my chances? Classes such as English, Math, etc I have A's in. But those GE classes screwed over my GPA. Sciences: Chemistry lec/lab is a B, and Microbio lec is a B-, lab is an A. Since about 3-4 classes will be in progress at the time of the application (for spring 2014) will it hurt my chances as well? Also I am not done with all my classes, hope to be done by the Fall and have my GPA raised. I volunteer in a radiology dept and will also start as a clinical assistant in another hospital. I plan to use my Microbio professor and the nurse I volunteer with as my references. Does anyone know what the avg GPA is for transfer students for these schools? What are they looking for? How could I be considered a competitive candidate?
  8. CONGRATS for getting in!!!!! :) You both are my inspiration. Heehee. I've heard of USF's program being super competitive. Does USF require you to take O chem? How many recommendations did you send them and what kind of volunteer work did you do? Does it matter what kind of volunteer work a person does? Do you think being a CNA will help in any way? Some people say to not do it and just focus on my grades... I know SM prerequisites also include GE's (like a history class, humanities, arts, etc) and I have about 2-3 C's from Philosophy classes that aren't prereqs! LOL not exacty my favorite subjects so I think my GPA won't be that great... Thanks for the advice. My sister has the McGraw book and I think I'm gonna get another one. Any suggestions? Good luck with SM!!! Best wishes for you :)
  9. Oh my that is soooo exciting!!!!! Good luck to you and all your future endeavors :) I am so happy for you. SM is a great school and I know they have a great ABSN program! Thank you so much for your advice. If I have no luck at all, this is my option as well! But I really want to get my BSN!!! Is their ABSN competitive?!
  10. Ah! EB was gonna be one of my top schools but after speaking with admissions for the program, I have another YEAR worth of Chemistry!!!! My chemistry from SFSU doesn't transfer over and they want an additional course that is more advanced than just basic Chem. The nurse I was speaking with couldn't even really tell me what I need chemistry for even within the field. She's been a nurse for 30 years now and thought that having to do another year of chemistry was ridiculous. CSU programs are so competitive!!!! Everything is based on points and my GPA isn't good enough to get me a decent amount of points... and they even give you addtl points if you live in the area, have work experience (I was thinking of doing a CNA program), speak another language, how many hours you've volunteered.... It's all so overwhelming....
  11. Wow! That's such good news to hear!!! Did you apply to anywhere else besides CCSF? They have a great program. Hundreds of people apply there. Is this your first time applying to programs?
  12. Sorry I'm new to this site I didn't know I had to quote someone to reply, lol!
  13. Also I don't think my overall GPA is good. Everyone is around 3.6-4.0. Is it possible to get in with a 3.0+?
  14. Hi everyone! I am currently a Sophomore attending SFSU. I have A's and B's in most of my prereqs (English, Stats, Microbio lab, Communications-A/A-) (Microbio Lecture, Crit thinking B-, Chem lec + lab B), and I am taking Human Anatomy over the summer and hopefully Physio in the fall. I know that all schools differ but these are the prereqs for SFSU. My science GPA is much higher than my composite GPA... Which is about a 3.00 and I'm taking 4 GE classes right now. I currently volunteer in a Radiology department/Breast Center with a Nurse who graduated from USF! I also hope to be volunteering in SFGH soon. I am really looking into USF, Samuel Merritt, Dominican University, Chabot College, CCSF, CSM, and a few other CSU's NP (even West Coast University if I can't get into any of these schools). I am guaranteed to not get into SFSU... Which was already expected. Can someone give me some tips as I finish my prerequisites? What should I be doing to be a considered a competitive candidate? And for the people who are applying/got into one of these programs what did you do?!? And how did you do it (GPA wise, experience, TEAS)?!?! also is it possible to apply to community colleges even though I attend a University right now? I don't mind going for an ADN. I can always try to get a BSN afterwards. Thank you!
