Hello everyone!
I will be applying to SMU's direct-entry BSN program for the Spring of 2014 and was wondering if anyone is going to be applying for that term as well. I met with a counselor about my prereqs and I have about 6 prereqs in progress for the fall, and 2 to be taken over the summer. I asked her if it would hurt my chances since its a large number of class (with physio and developmental psych among them) and she said it won't and that it's normal since that happens to most people. They will base me on what I have already done. I have 2 C's and the rest are all A's and B's. If I do well in my summer classes, I'm looking at around a 3.4 I know it's not that great of a GPA... But the counselor said that they will be looking at more than just my GPA (btw, the counselors there are really nice as oppose to the school that I asked for help and told me that I should reconsider nursing and find another degree since my grades weren't that well). I have volunteer experience and hope to complete my 100hrs by the deadline. I also hope to have my volunteer supervisor and microbio prof as my recommendations. And she said that they look for mainly the reading comprehension and math sections of the TEAS-- must meet or exceed national average so I hope to be studying this summer for that as well. Anyone who has been accepted have any tips on what they did to get in? What should I do to be a competitive candidate? If this doesn't work out what else schools will overlook my overall GPA? (My overall GPA with SMU's prereqs is significantly higher than my overall at my school right now, which is only a 3.00.. sad, I know). How to write an exceptional essay to stand out? Also anyone else applying for that term? What're your stats? Thanks in advanced and good luck to everyone! :)
This is what my email said: Thank you for completing the application and interview process for the Bachelor of Science program at Samuel Merritt University. The process has been competitive with many very qualified applicants. We are nearing the conclusion of the process and offers of admission have been made, denial letters have been sent and a wait list has been established. Although numbers may shift a bit as we finalize the process, at this time we are happy to offer you a place on the wait list for the BSN Spring 2014 class. Please contact ________by email to find out your waitlist number.
There was more about financial aid but it's not important.
I just found out I am number 5! I hope we both get in! its so close yet so far away.... AHHH!
# 5 is great!!!! You are getting in! I know it! At least 5 people will turn down the offer. I'm hoping at least 8 ppl!!! Good Luck! I'm nervous, stressed, excited, happy, anxious all at the same time! This process is exhausting!

The admission process is so so confusing and the wait is driving me crazy. I called today around 4:30 pm and the lady on the phone told me my application is still in review, which doesn't make sense at all unless its a denial. Congrats to those on the waitlist! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you all. If you dont mind sharing your stats that'd be great. I'm trying to see if this rumor of only accepting applicants with a 3.8 and above is true or not. For those still waiting, hang in there...I know the wait is killing us all

I'm nervous people wont turn down the offer but I hope so!!!!!! Definitely a draining process. Keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!
Does anyone know how far down on the waitlist they've gone previous years? Just wondering..

GPA is a 3.6. TEAS is 82 with a 97 in reading and a 91 in math. I really think they look at the WHOLE application. I've heard they really pay attention to the writing sample. I definitely dont think they only accepted people with a 3.8 or above.

My GPA for SMU is 3.9 but my Science GPA is a 3.0 which is bad. I took the TEAs twice and my highest scores were 80 overall with 91 in reading, 100 in math, and 78 in science. I have an EMT license and got a good letter from a nurse that I work with along with letters from a couple of my professors. I don't think it is true about accepting applicants with a 3.8 and above. Good luck to you! I hope we all get in this semester!
I don't know how far down they went on the waitlist for my cohort last year, but I do know that someone in my cohort got in from the waitlist, and she was number 3.
Thanks Maryk! Im really hoping neiderbrach and I both get in. I'm sure the number varies every semester, but it's nice to know that its still possible.

Apps are reviewed individually then a decision is made.. I donno? Scary knowing so many are accepted/rejected and wait listed already:(
