Hello everyone!
I will be applying to SMU's direct-entry BSN program for the Spring of 2014 and was wondering if anyone is going to be applying for that term as well. I met with a counselor about my prereqs and I have about 6 prereqs in progress for the fall, and 2 to be taken over the summer. I asked her if it would hurt my chances since its a large number of class (with physio and developmental psych among them) and she said it won't and that it's normal since that happens to most people. They will base me on what I have already done. I have 2 C's and the rest are all A's and B's. If I do well in my summer classes, I'm looking at around a 3.4 I know it's not that great of a GPA... But the counselor said that they will be looking at more than just my GPA (btw, the counselors there are really nice as oppose to the school that I asked for help and told me that I should reconsider nursing and find another degree since my grades weren't that well). I have volunteer experience and hope to complete my 100hrs by the deadline. I also hope to have my volunteer supervisor and microbio prof as my recommendations. And she said that they look for mainly the reading comprehension and math sections of the TEAS-- must meet or exceed national average so I hope to be studying this summer for that as well. Anyone who has been accepted have any tips on what they did to get in? What should I do to be a competitive candidate? If this doesn't work out what else schools will overlook my overall GPA? (My overall GPA with SMU's prereqs is significantly higher than my overall at my school right now, which is only a 3.00.. sad, I know). How to write an exceptional essay to stand out? Also anyone else applying for that term? What're your stats? Thanks in advanced and good luck to everyone! :)
No worries, I have been keeping up with this thread for the same reason. I have a 4.0 prerequisite GPA (3.95 overall) and I received a 92.7 on the TEAS. Also, I have two outstanding non-science classes that will be completed this December. So for those worried about that, it is possible to get in with classes in progress! Good luck everyone!
No special news. Yesterday I got a general message because I sent a counselor an email about when we'd find out and she said, yes decisions have been made and sent out, but they haven't all been sent out. The email also said there's no definite timeline that she can give us.. Basically it was no help at all but I guess it's important to all keep hope alive because not all decisions have been sent out yet... Ugh! I now have a pimple on my face from all the stress, I've named it Samuel Merritt
@kayevangelista. lol about your "Samuel Merritt" friend!!! Which counselor? It it ---------------------? I have emailed her and called her and no response at all.. I called today and got a general voicemail for office of admissions that no one was available at the time-- called back later and same general message that no one was available. It is so frustrating!!!
I haven't heard anything either! What time did you call today? I called around 3:30 yesterday and got right through to the admissions office. I'm thinking about applying to CSUEB but I applied there and state last year and didn't get in so I'm not very optimistic. Still really hoping for an SMU acceptance!

Lolol! Samuel Merritt! That's really funny!!!
@roro I don't mind. When I applied I had a 3.6 prereq gpa and got an 82 on my TEAS. I also had work experience and a second language. CSUEB accepts on a point based scale, on their website you can look up how they break down the points. I worked it out and I had about 87 points out of 100 and didn't even make the waitlist! It's so competitive everywhere it sucks. I know people who applied 5 years before getting in anywhere :/
