Hello everyone!
I will be applying to SMU's direct-entry BSN program for the Spring of 2014 and was wondering if anyone is going to be applying for that term as well. I met with a counselor about my prereqs and I have about 6 prereqs in progress for the fall, and 2 to be taken over the summer. I asked her if it would hurt my chances since its a large number of class (with physio and developmental psych among them) and she said it won't and that it's normal since that happens to most people. They will base me on what I have already done. I have 2 C's and the rest are all A's and B's. If I do well in my summer classes, I'm looking at around a 3.4 I know it's not that great of a GPA... But the counselor said that they will be looking at more than just my GPA (btw, the counselors there are really nice as oppose to the school that I asked for help and told me that I should reconsider nursing and find another degree since my grades weren't that well). I have volunteer experience and hope to complete my 100hrs by the deadline. I also hope to have my volunteer supervisor and microbio prof as my recommendations. And she said that they look for mainly the reading comprehension and math sections of the TEAS-- must meet or exceed national average so I hope to be studying this summer for that as well. Anyone who has been accepted have any tips on what they did to get in? What should I do to be a competitive candidate? If this doesn't work out what else schools will overlook my overall GPA? (My overall GPA with SMU's prereqs is significantly higher than my overall at my school right now, which is only a 3.00.. sad, I know). How to write an exceptional essay to stand out? Also anyone else applying for that term? What're your stats? Thanks in advanced and good luck to everyone! :)
Congrats everyone who got accepted!! :)I had a question for you guys that also applied in the Fall... Did you need to resubmit your letters of recommendation, or do they keep them on file for the next application cycle?? Thanks!
I would resubmit for a couple reasons:
1. This year is the first year you are able to submit online... With computers you never know and depending on how they download and print it may not get placed with you old ones in plain view.
2. You can submit 3 new references if you want, more people to vouch for you. This is what I did.
3. Always cover your butt!! So many things could go wrong, you NEVER know.
Anyone hear anything today??
I haven't heard anything yet. I spoke to staff in admissions and as of 2pm today faculty are still making decisions!!! She also said faculty sent out an email to applicants explaining there is a delay in decisions. I never got that email. Did any of you receive an email?
I asked the staff if I should be worried since I didn't receive an email on Friday and she said not ro worry and thay I still have a chance. She was really nice. So we all still have a chance! I have stopped checking my email every second. I was going crazy and getting depressed! I figure worrying won't do me any good. Hope we all get in! : )

I spoke to a counselor and she told me the letters are kept in your file for 1 year. I asked her one more time before I submitted the application and she said I did not need to resubmit the letters. I submitted a new one just in case she is wrong.
