Spring 2017 Chat

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Now that January is here, I thought I'd start a thread where we can support and encourage each other through our Spring semester, similar to our Fall thread, but with a bit more chit chat. What's your schedule look like? Any other goals you're working on?

I go back on the 17th, though I have a Phi Theta Kappa meeting on the 13th.

My schedule is:

A&P II

Microbio

Federal Government

World Religions

The last two are online.

Right now I'm trying to lose this holiday weight, so I've started running again (it burns). I graduate at the end of this year! In December I'll have my EMT-B certification and my Associates of Science in Biology. I'll also be applying to nursing school (application deadline is August 1), so it's going to be a really exciting (busy) year for me! I'm hoping to use my EMT-B cert to become an ED tech during the summers.

I look forward to chatting with you guys this semester!

If you decide not to do it, you can start working as a PCT after your first semester of nursing school! If you're that close to nursing school and the EMT certification is going to be tough financially, you may want to just wait and work as a PCT.

Really? How did I not know this!? Thanks for making the choice so much easier!

Yeah! I'm pretty sure it's that way everywhere, but you could check your local hospital's job openings for PCT's & under qualifications it should have the option of completed the first semester of a nursing school. I was considered doing a CNA course but I decided it would just be a waste of time/money when I could just do this.

Yeah, you can. Most hospitals up here have a distinction between PCT and nurse tech, where if you are IN nursing school (completed foundations) you would be a nurse tech and able to do a bit more. PCT is roughly a CNA but they might train you to do phlebotomy and ekg readings.

My CNA class was $600 and took four weekends. Definitely worth it to me to do it and not wait a year to start working. Besides I'm desperate for a partner facility. You might prefer doing your volunteer work and going as a tech after the first semester.

I'm a nervous wreck about this interview. I don't know what to wear, I don't own a suit (suit skirts aren't good for my shape anyway) but I have nice pants and blouses. I'm afraid I come off as too colorful? I don't have like a basic white shirt, everything is some sort of color. I think I'm overthinking again.

I didn't even remember to say, my pharmacology class "started" already and it's fascinating. I feel like I'm actually learning nursing stuff! My textbook should get here Monday and I can dive into the mounds of chapters we need to read each week.

Guys... I start summer school in 2 days. TWO.DAYS. Whyyyyyy. :wtf: lol

Dedication to our future profession? I'm right there with you though.

Haha True true. I just need to get used to it though because even though I'll graduate with my BSN in December 2018, I'll be in school/fellowship/residency for like, 10 more years. Good thing I love this field! ;)

Final grades are in for me, I got all A's! :)

Take that, all those people who said it was impossible to do well in Micro and A&P II with two other classes!

Yes girl get it!! :) Same for me, all A's! Micro, Chem, and A&P I all in one semester on top of working and finished with 110% in Micro, 103% in Chem, and 97% in A&P. Guess we proved the naysayers wrong. ;)

But anyway, I'm very proud of you, even though I only know you through a screen. I know you're a stay-at-home mom too so extra kudos to you!

Does anyone not know their final grade(s) yet? I still do not know what my grade will be in my statistics course because my prof never post are grades so I don't know what I got on my last exam (and apparently I will never know)....I'm so anxious to know my final grade that it's eating me alive.

Especially since I can't get a D or it will affect my admission into the nursing program :nailbiting:

My Micro prof doesn't post grades online. He submits the final Grade to the school that could take a day to 2 weeks to post. He said due to policy can't email out grade to us. Bit nerve racking. I bombed the 2nd exam, but averaged 80s for the exams. Never told us what our lab grade was either. He looked through our books during the final, and said if our unknown was wrong wouldn't hold it against us if we laid out the evidence on how we came to those organisms.

Test were about 16% of the grade, the final was 15%, and lab was 20%.

Hoping I was able to get 20 or less wrong on the final; if I did my grade for the final will be an 80 or higher.
