Spring 2017 Chat

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Now that January is here, I thought I'd start a thread where we can support and encourage each other through our Spring semester, similar to our Fall thread, but with a bit more chit chat. What's your schedule look like? Any other goals you're working on?

I go back on the 17th, though I have a Phi Theta Kappa meeting on the 13th.

My schedule is:

A&P II

Microbio

Federal Government

World Religions

The last two are online.

Right now I'm trying to lose this holiday weight, so I've started running again (it burns). I graduate at the end of this year! In December I'll have my EMT-B certification and my Associates of Science in Biology. I'll also be applying to nursing school (application deadline is August 1), so it's going to be a really exciting (busy) year for me! I'm hoping to use my EMT-B cert to become an ED tech during the summers.

I look forward to chatting with you guys this semester!

What would you say the biggest challenge of juggling A&P 2 and micro is? I was considering doing it next spring...

The only real struggle is when the tests fall on the same weeks - for example next week I have a lecture exam in Micro on Tuesday, a Lab exam in A&P II on Wednesday and a lab practical in Micro on Thursday (along with another test and a final). So it's finding the time to study appropriately and a lot of information being presented in a short amount of time. But then again, I'm taking four classes. I don't think taking those two sciences together is inherently hard at all.

I got a 102% on my Chem exam! It was on nomenclature, half life, beta, alpha positron and gamma radiation and decay, and electron configuration and more.... I'm so hoping I was the highest score! I gotta represent the ladies in the class!! Last exam two guys were the high scorers.

I hate my online speech class. Haaaaaaaaaate. lol

That is all.

I hated mine too last semester. I managed an A, but it was not a fun experience.

This week was midterm week. I had 5 exams in 3 days - it was torture. I did manage to get a 105 on my Micro lecture exam, a 200/200 on my Government mid-term and 94 on my World Religions final.

I'm so happy it's Spring Break. So. Happy.

You nailed it! Awesome!

Wow theres so many people that score above 100's here. I never got extra credit in any of my science classes :/

The extra credit I earned on that exam was for spending 5 hours volunteering as a judge for the Texas Academic Decathlon.

ROCKSTAR.

My raw score was a 92, but since most of the class wouldn't pass without a curve he takes the average (usually 60%) and makes it 70% the C.

But trust me I always try to get an A BEFORE the curve.

And to be honest I'm not a fan of curves because they distort reality. My teacher is tough, he's head of engineering/science/mathematics and has a horrible rep. I'm the type of student that does well with any teacher because I learn easily from books.

Do your nursing professors use a curve? I'm prepared to be graded without one in nursing school ☺️

The last 2 weeks have been hell. I've been in and out of doctors offices, scans, and physical therapy appointments because ~3 weeks ago I felt a horrible pain in the lateral side of my right foot while I was out on a 10 mile tempo run and it was so bad I literally could barely walk the rest of the week. I would sit down and have to scoot myself down the stairs in my home because the pain from the pressure of pushing off the steps was too much for me to handle. Trying to get around school and work was a whole different story. Needless to say, I have a nasty stress fracture in my right lateral calcanous that extends into my subtalar joint and a small piece of my talus. And it's given my tendonitis in both my right peroneal and achilles tendons and caused a ton of inflammation and edema in the surrounding tissues as well. I'm in SO much pain and my running career has been sidelined for who knows how long since the talus is a risk-risk area of potential nonunion and surgery. :sorry: I found out the news on Wednesday, just a few hours before my Anatomy bone lab practical. I was so upset I couldn't even bring myself to review. I walked into that exam underprepared, anxious, and completely unfocused. Annnnnnnd somehow walked away with a 68/70, nailing a 97%. Go figure. LOL

I also had my second Micro lecture exam and Anatomy lecture exam over bones this past week, while all of this was going on. Somehow scored a 98% on my Micro exam and 100% on my Anatomy exam. What is life. haha I'm SO happy it's spring break! Though I do have my Chem midterm the day we come back and a Micro project due the next day. Who decided that was a good idea?? :arghh: lol
