Sports Nursing: MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA

Do any of the professional sports organizations hire nurses to be part of their medical staff? I know most professional sports teams have a comprehensive medical staff including doctors and trainers.

Do any of the organizations employ nurses on their medical staff?

If so, what is the capacity of the nurse? And how does one go about getting such job?

I truly have no idea if nurses are a part of the medical team for professional sports. However, if they are, I would guess that the nurse would be affiliated with the ortho practice that treats the team. I would also guess that you would really have to have connections to land that type of position.

They might have a N/P or a PA, but I doubt much else.

I know an orthopedic/sports medicine APN/RNFA that is affiliated with a professional sports team as an associate of the affiliated orthopedic/sports medicine group. Rarely are nurses used. It's AT-C, sometimes PT, physicians and if the ortho/sports medicine group utilizes APN or PA-C. Sports venues will employ EMT & medics for emergent response. I've never seen/heard of a team nurse.

Unless you count my son's recreation wrestling team. ;) I am the epstaxis/ice/bandaid/fungi off the mat/tape/fix the splints & elastic wrap/if you don't take your son with the deformed shoulder to the doc or ER I'm calling EMS queen nurse of the mats. The kids pick up the first aid kit and come to me (I have my own stash too).

Thank you all for the insight .... wish there was a place for a nurse in professional sports....

Even if there was a role for nurses in professional sports, I imagine the nurses would need to have a certain look to obtain and keep these types of jobs: youthful, conventionally attractive, in great physical shape, and with the soft skills to mix well in celebrity sports social circles.

There truly is no place in professional sports for nurses to incite anything.
