Nurses General Nursing

Published

last nightI worked L&D in my hospital. I usually workNICU. Well, we were sitting around talking and the subject of ghostly inhabitants came up and our scrub tech went on to relate the story of how she can go back to the surgical suites and turn off the lights and return a little later and the surgical lamps over the tables will be on.

We had this med student with us and he walked back with her and they turned off all the lights, waited half an hour and went back to check.

Sure enough, the spotlights were on. well this was where a couple of the other nurses and I came in on this story and of course I jumped right in and so BS! So she did it again with us all with her.

we went back a little later and they were on again.

Of course we had to try it again. This time our med student went back and checked from the hall and the lights were still off, a short time later 3 of us went back and the 1st OR light was not on, but in the 2nd OR the light was on as was the anesthessia machine.

We decided to mess with the whole thing a little and adjusted the light and pointed it towards the wall to the right of the table and left, a short time later I peeked in and the light was on, pointed back to the center of the table and the machine was off. Then I pointed it to the wall at the head of the bed and left. Tight after we counted I peeked in again and it was pointed toward the wall at the foot of the table.

Our poor tech would not even go down there alone to collect instruments for CS without someone with her, after that she wouldn't even go down there with someone.

Now being the eternal skeptic, I tried to be aware where all of us were and watch for someone to go back there and did not ever catch anyone sneaking back.

What do you all think???

What do you all think???

I wouldn't be so quick to assume it is paranormal.

One really weird incident happened one night; I was sitting in my room reading, the kids were still up-it wasn't really late or anything, and my door creaked open, so I looked up thinking it was one of my kids. I didn't see anyone so I said "who's there?" and as I looked a small toddler appeared, dark-haired and giggling, kind of wiggling the way toddlers do, I said who's there again, thinking I was seeing things, and the child giggled and disappeared. Needless to say I was wide-awake. This wasn't too long ago; my kids are big teens.

One other thing happened one day when I was home by myself; Being neurotic me, I had all the doors locked-we only have a front door and back door. I was upstairs folding laundry, and heard the front door open, slam (it's loud and distinct-big heavy old wooden door) and heard someone walk down the hallway (I don't have rugs) and come towards the steps; thinking that my dh was home unusually early, I walked to the top of the steps and called his name; The walking steps stopped; I called his name again as I came down the steps; there was no one there, the doors were still locked. My house isn't very big, and the door is old and noisy-there is no way anyone would have had time to walk back out and close the door-not enough time and I would of heard it-this is a "noisy" house. I called dh and he was over 60 miles away. I decided to go out for coffee.

One night, my dh who is a complete skeptic kept hearing the walking noise, and some voices, as well as what he described as the sound of chairs scraping around in the den (the houses original kitchen); the den had only a couch and some cushions for sitting in it, no chairs. Thinking of me and how I believe, he called out "Quit it, please, I need to get some sleep. The noises stopped.

Don't even ask me about the basement, I will not go in it. but other than that, we feel that there's nothing scarey here.

I'm generally an agnostic, but I do think if there is a spirit world the Bible gives good warning about spirits. I believe, with the exception of a close family member or friend, be it a grandmother or small child, who would be about the only ones who would have reason to contact you, be wary of spirits, because Satan (which I think is not really one specific person but represents evilness and evil spirits) will manifest itself in about any form (even an adorable toddler) to play with your emotions and lock you into a head game. I even believe Satan can manifest into a loved one.

The Bible specifically warns against attempting to make contact with spirits but apparently, there are times they will make contact with you with no provocation.

Why? Being at the lowest level of hell, they have nowhere to go, except to try to influence the living world. I have had many instances I could call "encounters", but I don't believe they are benevolent spirits, if they are spirits at all. I think most, if not all, have a very logical explanation. Just because we may not be able to think of a logical explanation doesn't mean there isn't one.

And I believe that God allows "visits". My ex MIL lost her first husband to cancer and remarried. Throughout the growing up of their three children she often felt his presence, usually when one of the kids was in crisis. One day she felt his presence in the kitchen and started talking to him, telling him that the kids were okay, she was okay, and that it was okay to go back to God. She hasn't felt his presence since. During the first year after my brother's death I felt his presence often, until I had a dream that I have talked about here. I felt that in my dream he was telling me that he was okay, to let him rest. I have not felt him since then. I think he couldn't leave because I couldn't let him go.

wow such a great story. wouldn't it be neat if you could some how get more information from your dream? like a message to give someone. very cool i think it is so awesome you were able to voulenteer your time to such an incredible cause. bless you.:blushkiss

i have long thought that there was a message there beyond the obvious. i watched tv a lot as the 5 year anniv of 9/11 approached thinking i would see a picture of the man i saw in my dream. i'm not sure what i'd do if i did see him. on a side note, our team did recover the body of a young woman and i recently saw her photo on a tv show. that brought a flood of emotions.

That is amazing!!! On a side note, I just want to say thank you from one citizen to another for what you did up there!!! I only wish that I would have been able to help.

Wow these were all amazing. I read everyone of them.

I'm still in school, and don't have any work-related stories to offer, but here's a personal story.

My brother had a KP transplant and got the call that deceased donor organs were available at about 2:30am. He called my mom, and then me. I drove him to the hospital and saw him off to the OR, then waited. Meanwhile, Mom and Dad were driving 10 hours to get to the hospital. They arrived just as he was being transferred to ICU. Mom told me that earlier in the night, just before he got "the call", she had a dream.

In her dream, she was standing in an OR next to a large black man on a gurney with a sheet pulled over his face. My brother was standing just outside the door in a hospital gown and his ever-present ragg socks. He never said anything, just stood in the doorway. My mom said, "Wait, sweetie, I need to say goodbye." She pulled the sheet down, and told the man goodbye, and thank you. Then she left the room, walking past my brother...that's all she can remember.

Over the next few days, we found out a little information about his donor. The same team did the harvest and the transplant, and they told us, mostly in terms of explaining how healthy these organs were, that the donor was a 23yo male, died of head trauma, and was healthy as a horse. (so sad to think of it). Someone asked if the donor was caucasian, and they said no, he was black. Then my mom brazenly asks if they could tell her if he was a big guy or not. They said he wasn't fat, but he was a very tall man, and muscular. My mom (an educated and rational woman) about slid out of her chair, and she is sure this was the man in her dream. It appears she had this dream within the same hour the donor was being removed from life support. WIERD BUT COOL

Okey so I have sat here for literally 3+ hours and I have read EVERY single posting. I just couldn't get enough of them, of course while I'm reading these I'm not only freaking out but crying from sadness at the same time depending on the story, then a bag falls over while I'm reading a particularly scary story and I just about number 2'd my pants or I think I see something in the bedroom to say I've been calm for the past few hours would be such a lie. I knew nursing would probably drive me to drinking I just never knew it would be because I was scared of ghost stories and had to have something to calm my neurotic butt down. So finally here goes my stories

My mom tells me this one every once in a while. Her mother went for an exploratory surgery she was bleeding and they coudlnt' find from where. While on the table she "died" they tried for a good half an hour to revive her but nothing. Suddenly she comes back and they are able to close her up, etc. When she wakes up my mother tells her about the problems on the table and she tells my mom I know already I saw Jesus (regardless of what you believe its what she believed) and he said Mary Jo its time to go. She told him that I coudln't leave my children that they needed me, and I suddenly found myself back. Well my mom was 17 when all of this happened and she is the oldest of 4 kids the youngest was 8. Another 10 years when by with no problems. When my mom was 27 I was 2 yrs old and her mother had been diagnosed with Lung cancer (smoking), she went to the hospital and died shortly there after. The scary part comes in that when she died, all 4 of her children had or where already on their own, the youngest sibling had JUST joined the military and graduated from HS. Her children were all taken care of and she went off to the next plane.

A second story when I was 13 my grandmother passed away very suddenly from a PE that was thrown by a chest tube (which could explain to this day why i'm TERRIFIED of having a chest tube). She had had breast cancer some 7 years earlier and it had reoccured but this time as lung cancer. They changed her drugs and did more radiation and the tumor shrank so fast that it caused a pneumothorax hence the need for the chest tube. So she was sitting there talking with the doctors (surgeon/Oncologist) and suddenly grabbed her chest said I can't breath and passed out/died. We had to fly down to my grandfathers house and I was having a very hard time with it. One night I was in my bed and I was having a nightmare and i awake to find my grandmother there by my bed and she told me not to be scared, and that she loved me and would see me again one day. I started to cry so hard I woke my mother and told her what happened I didn't believe she was dead and it just made it even worse for quite a while. To this day when ever I go back to that house I can still feel her presence there whenever I go back into that room can be kind of unerving at times

The last is a dream my mother told me she had of her and my dad out on a balcony in a yellow house over looking a set of trees and how it was so real, but she didn't know where it was. Two years later she and my dad went to NOLA and went to some house where all of a sudden she found herself on this same balcony over looking the same trees, etc. Everything was the same, she had never been to NOLA before and was pretty unnerved by the whole situation.

okey thats my contribution.
