What type of visa are you actually on? If you do not have the OPT, there is no way that you can remain in the US if not already on a visa that will permit you to stay. Your bigger issue is that there are no visas available and the US has had a retrogression in place for the past year. So it is not as much as finding an employer, but the issue of no visas.
Very familiar with that area, and most the hospitals in that area do not do any petitioning. There actually is no sponsorship available for nurses as there are no temporary work visas available to you, only the green card petitioning.
There are a few in the Los Angeles area, closer to the south side, but there are not any visas available at this time and we do not know when they will accept the I-485 again.
Hi Suzanne,
thanks alot. I have an F1-student VISA but i dont think INS can renew my OPT. so basically you are saying that it it pointless trying to look for a hospital to sponsor me coz they have no more temporary visas to issue out. Ohh my goodness. Well do you know how i can get the greencard? any idea? its my last straw. thank you so much.

Doesn't matter where in the country you move to the situation is the same. There are no visas currently for any nurse and lots have been stuck like this since last October me included. If you don't have OPT option anymore (OPT can not be renewed) then you need to either go home and start the consular process with an employer in the US who is willing to petition you or start studying again to stay in status and start the process. I suggest a read in the sticky International students in the US as Suzanne has answered this question a few times recently

Placement is one thing, but be careful because USCIS is not accepting sponsorship applications from employers, which is why hospitals are not willing to hire or sponsor. USCIS has a HUGE backlog of applications, so it's going to be a while. Please read here through the forums and you will find the information. Beware especially of agencies making promises, the most they can do at this moment is take your money, without really giving you much in return.
The matter of the fact is that we are in retrogression, now, and there's not anything that any employer or agency can do about that. I don't mean to be discouraging but it's better to be armed with the knowledge of what is going on so you don't get duped. Spend some time reading here about retrogression before you jump into anything.

Please note date of last post was september '07.
Also it is petition not sponsor when approaching employers
Strange! I didn't notice that. I only replied to it because it was right at the top, not sure how it got there. My apologies.

(It was "on top" because someone else posted to it earlier today, but that post was deleted because it violated the site's TOS. So there has been activity on the thread today, and that bumped it up in the queue.)
