SPC Spring 2019

Published

I've been active on a different thread for people who applied to St. Petersburg College's Nursing program starting in August 2018. I made it on the alternate list (still completing Microbiology-finals tomorrow!), but have decided, with the help of an HEC advisor, not to accept if I get offered a last minute seat based on the fact that my only options for clinicals will be whatever no one else wanted. She said I'll definitely be accepted for January and will have top choice of clinicals/instructors, so I'm happy waiting another four months to start. Who else is applying for the Spring 2019 program?

Is anyone's finger print screening taking awhile to be approved? I got it done Friday morning and it still hasn't cleared on my castle branch. Should I be concerned?

The fingerprinting takes the longest and will probably be the last thing approved. Don't worry about it. I think you can go on the FDLE website to check the status.

Kathy Boylson at HEC is the person you want to go to in order to straighten out anything Castlebranch related.

She's great! Emails back same day or the next morning. [email protected]

That's a bummer about St. Anthony's. I wonder why they even include it in our Notice if Intent site rankings. When I asked my advisor if, based on my standing, she thought I'd be likely to get my first choice, she said definitely. I live two blocks from SAH and volunteered there for two years. I sure hope it's not the same this semester.

hey, ddeburger, since you're here...can you enlighten us on whether registration actually happens at orientation or if we will start hearing what sites/instructors we got before then...I seem to remember seeing people talking about their assignments about eight days after acceptance letters in July

They do? I can't remember if they had them as a choice in my NOI. Maybe they changed this semester, but St. Anthony's was usually for their employees and the earn as you learn program or something like that. If it is a choice on your NOI, then that means it is free game then. I wish I would have had St. Anthony's as a choice because I live really close to there. You will know which clinical site you get before orientation. I cannot remember how long after submitting your NOI, but it wasn't that long after. You just log into MySPC and if you see tuition due, then you have been enrolled. Scroll down to My Schedule and you will see which clinical site you got.

Does anybody know if the nursing program starts on the same date as everything else? Jan 14? I don't know why for some reason I thought it was Jan 7.

The fun starts on Jan. 14th!

Sweet thanks!!! We must be neighbors...I live two blocks from St. Anthony's!

I don't live that close, but just a few blocks away on 5th ave N.

I was at the HEC today for my physical and found that there was no waiting to see Tammy Cappleman so I went in for advising too and these are some things I found out:

1) St. Anthony's as a clinical site is not and never was for BayCare employees only...any nursing student can be placed there-the only site SPC uses that is specifically for BayCare employees is St. Joseph's in Tampa

2) generally, students don't find out instructors and clinical sites before orientation. Last semester a ton of students got the top half of their checklists complete really early so lots of students DID find out early, but that's not the norm. She said students who zipped through the checklist and completed the MLP as soon as it was available are more likely to find out before orientation

3) if you go see an advisor before orientation, they will give you the Advisement Audit form and that's one more thing you can check off your list rather than waiting until you see an advisor after they give it to you at orientation

4) They arrive around 45 minutes early to set up for orientation and request that we don't come super early and stand around the doors waiting, so those of us meeting up before orientation are welcome to meet elsewhere on campus. I suggest the Natures Table cafe up the main stairs and to the right. They open at 7:30 and purchase is not required to sit at the tables there, but they do have an espresso machine! ;) I'll be there at 8:15

Has anyone had there cohort changed to the Spring 2019 in Castlebranch? Has it deleted items? They said it could take a few days and they just got the code 2 days ago to change it when I just spoke to them.

Mine still says Fall 2018. But it's accepting the items I'm submitting and calling them complete. Kathy Boylson said they should all update automatically when castlebranch resets the dates

Mine still says fall 2018 as well. I'm doing the same as Alexis, submitting it and hoping they transfer everything like they were supposed to. Alexis I'm game for meeting at nature's table too. I'm going to try and refrain from drinking caffeine though. I'll be so excited that might push me over the top.

I look forward to meeting you Corey :)

Question...For any titers we don't have done what's the best way to go about getting them done? Go to my primary care and request a script to get the ones I need done? Or go to the NUHS? And tell them I need to get titers done for the nursing program.
