Hello everyone,
I haven't seen a Spring 2018 thread started for SPC nursing hopefuls so I decided to start one. I am very eager and anxious and I know a lot of you are too. So who else is applying for the Nursing program at St. Pete College for the spring?
A little bit about me. I have a BS in Psych and returning for nursing. I have all my prereqs completed and have a 3.66 GPA.. I have A's in all my sciences except Mirco Lab I have a B. I am super nervous about my GPA knowing that many others have better GPAs. I am holding out hope that other people will apply to other programs. Also historically the Spring is less competitive. I am hoping to get in for the night classes. The application opens on July 1st so we can apply in 3 days!!! Then wait for what will feel like forever. The suspense is already killing me.
Where are the rest of the SPC Nursing hopefuls? Sound off... 3..2..1.. GO!
Hi Kaye!
This past semester, as I imagine all semesters have been , the program had a point system. I do believe 385 was the total points you could achieve. 309 points is a passing grade.
The grading system (if your looking for letter grades) are as follows:
100-92 = A
85-91 = B
80-84 = C
73-79 = D
72-below = F
This is nursing school, we don't go by "ordinary" standards. Just keep in mind ANY final grade below an 80 and you fail the section. If you fail the lab you fail the lecture (and vice versa) as each are co-requisites.
Lots of assignments that you put HOURS of work into will be worth no points at all. Things that you put just a few minutes of time into will be worth 1 point. ATI testing (that will come near the end of the semester) can earn you up to 2 extra points. So don't slack off with your ATI. I know its a pain and time consuming but it WILL help!
Just remember 1 point can be the difference between you failing the course or passing! Can you still get A's? Absolutely! Many of my classmates did. Just be prepared to put in some heavy duty work in order to get those grades. They don't come easy!
DON'T freak out if you have a few exams that are not over 80. Talk to your instructor and they will give you suggestions on how to improve. Don't wait till the last second, you have to give yourself some time to adapt. The exam questions are not like your pre-reqs. They use your developing critical thinking skills!
If you have any more questions please feel free to ask!
