SPC Spring 2021 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone! I figured I'd get a thread going for those of us who are going to apply for the Spring 2021 nursing at St Pete College. I am currently taking MCB2010 and MCB2010L and Stats for the Summer semester. I applied for the fall application with a 3.7 GPA, but obviously didn't have all 30 points for the courses. I knew fall was a long shot, so here's to staying the course and continuing on towards the dream! Let's connect with each other and support each other, as we are all on the same journey! I am newer to the Clearwater area, and always looking for additional study buddies or friends. My bf and I are both applying for Spring. I love creating helpful study guides, graphics, etc. I'm also a hairstylist who only works weddings, so Covid has made it harder to work and "free" time has increased, more time for studying! I hope y'all are well, and I look forward to chatting with everyone about our goals and just generally supporting each other during the big wait!

@AngusBeef Hi! good luck to you on your nursing journey!

Just incase you haven't heard of it already, I wanted to mention that ratemyprofessor.com  is a great way to narrow down and choose which professor you want. Outside of the sciences, your other classes are easy (that was my experience).

 For Ethics I recommend --------------------, he is great.

For stats I loved ------------------, she made stats a breeze.

For World religions its hard to say, I'm taking it now for the 2nd 8 week express so I will have my A.A. before Spring starts. I was originally taking it with --------------------- mormino because she was the only option, but I just switched to ------------------- 2nd 8 week express. I have heard nothing but good things about him, "easy A".

For A&P2, if ---------------------- is teaching, I'd go for him....If not, --------------------- (in my opinion) is good. With, ---------------------his tests are critical thinking mainly, so practice that and you'll get an A.

And lastly, for micro I recommend ---------------------! She is amazing! I had A+ all the way through. She makes micro so much fun, I'd take it again with her, just for fun.

Hope this helps ?

Thank you so much!

To anyone who is currently still attending classes at SPC, did you send your transcripts to the school with your nursing application? I was under the impression I did not have to. Thank you all so much.

If you have only gone to SPC then you do not need to send in your transcripts, this is coming from my advisor because I had the same question. You only need to send in your transcripts if you have completed your any of your classes at another college.

Hey everyone, I hope all is going well so far!

I attended todays zoom meeting for nursing school hopefuls, if you guys have any questions feel free to ask!

I just want to add, admissions letters are supposed to be out early since Nov 1st falls on a weekend.

Good luck all!!?

Hi, I just attended the what now? seminar for pre-nurses and man, I'm a little overwhelmed... anyways, I have tons of things to discuss but to start, can you tell me what you think my acceptance rate is. I have all prerequisite courses done BESIDES Microbiology and Microbiology Lab (4 credits). I also have All A's for the classes that I do have done. As you see, I'm a bit confused calculating the point system with MCB & MCBL not done yet. I am taking them currently though.

I am in a similar situation, I'm taking Micro and Stats right now but other wise have all As and one B. I have pretty much told myself that Ill make it as an alternate for Spring but I'm okay with this because maybe my name will be familiar to them in the fall when I apply again. I do how ever remember -------------------- saying in the zoom meeting that there were a few students last Spring that made it but were missing just a 3 credit class... sooo who knows ?

I believe that means you have 36 points out of 40 which is equivalent to a 3.6. According to the seminar today last Spring the average GPA accepted was a 3.59 I think? So I’d say you have a pretty good chance!

Is it normal for us to just be assigned to morning/evening and clinical without being able to give preference at all? Reading the forums for past semesters it seems people got to at least choose a preference and then may get assigned to their preference based on GPA ranking. Even for this Fall with COVID it seems people got to choose a preference.Thankfully I can do either the morning or evening program I was just really hoping for evening to be able to finish sooner.

@Roselettes Hello ?

So, typically students are able to list their preferences of day or night and where they want to attend clinicals. At the end of the day though, we still have no choice of where they put us. Like if you list nights and clinicals at northside as your #1 and days at the VA as your #4 (just for an example), they will still put you on days if that is what is available when they get to you. This year (COVID may have something to do with all of this) we have no input whatsoever, unfortunately. Which I'm not sure why. I feel like it would be easier placing students when they list their preferences. I want/need evenings as well.

I hope you get in! Fingers crossed for evenings ?

@Sara Dzierbicki Hi Sara, welcome! ?

I feel you, girl! I'm excited, but a little overwhelmed also.

Okay so for calculating your points.... With not having Mirco lec&lab done you have 26/30 credit points completed which lowers you a bit on the list not having those additional credit points (not by much though). And 40/40 GPA points IF you have ALL A's outside of micro. So that would mean you have 66/70 total points in all. Which puts you in the same position as someone who has 30/30 credits and a 3.6 GPA...Which is not a bad thing! I think you're a shoe in for Spring, Sara (Email, Tammy or, Katie if you haven't and they will break it all down for ya too).

Just a little encouragement, last fall when I was doing A&P2 I met a lady who was in the middle of finishing Micro lec&lab, had greats grades, mostly A's and like a B or two and she was accepted first round for Spring 2020 and got her preferences as well. ?

I think you got this! Feel free to ask anymore questions and or share whatever concerns you may have.

Hope this helps!

 Hi!! Could someone give me a piece of clue where did you know about the last Zoom meeting orientation. I haven't received any emails that were informing about this upcoming event.

@Tetyana Dimarova Hi!

I would double check your SPC email. This email went out on 09/18/20. --------------------- sends out an email to all applicants of the upcoming semester titled "I've Applied to Nursing, Now What?" about a month before applicant statuses go out to share information and updates for the program. Monday they will be sending a copy of the informational seminar for those who did not/ could not attend. You should be receiving these emails, but if you are not, you can contact ----------------- or -----------------.

Hope this helps ?
