Hey Everyone!
Thought I would be the first person to start a SPC Nursing Fall 2018 thread. Even though we still have one semester left before applying, I thought I would start a thread to get the ball rolling and to see where everyone stands. If are applying for the program in Fall of 2018, please let us know the amount of credits you will have at the time of applying and what your cumulative and program GPA's are. As for me, I will have 30 of 30 credits completed and a cumulative GPA of 3.9, with a program GPA of 4.0.
I hear ya summer classes suck. I almost want to do the day option if I get in just so I don't have summer classes. I'm a night shift worker at the hospital so not sure if I can do that switch every week from nights to days for 4 semesters. Just remember you have the rest of your life to become a nurse. If you want it you will get there somehow.
Then you know the struggle. Nightshift is a beast. I just fear by the time we get to the end of 2nd semester we will be dying for some time off also some time to build the funds back up. I know I will be cutting to 2 12hrs per week and I love to spend money. Amazon is getting cancelled if I get in lol. But I think I will end up going for evening classes as well. Get it over with and make more money. It will all work itself out.
Yeah, I've been doing it for 3 years now. And I can definitely see needing time off from school. I've been back in school for a year straight getting all the classes I need. The last time I wasn't in school was spring 2017. And right after we graduate from the nursing program, I will be right back in school the very next semester taking classes I need for the BSN program. I have like 6 more years of school. But at the same time, I like keeping busy.
You can leave them in your car but I found that didn't work for me as i was forever walking back and forth to my car either while at school or study group or home (for homework). For me it was easier having what I needed right with me.
FYI - Milk crates work good for storing the books in the car. Worked for me while I tried out that method. Just don't leave your skills kit in the car. Florida heat does not do well for the stuff in the kit.
Well, this is the big week we've all been waiting for! According to the seminar I went to, they told us that we would find out anytime during the week of the 25th-29th and that everyone should know by the 29th. I wish they would just give us a day and be done with it. Anyway, as soon as someone gets a notice either way, please let people here in the group know. Thank you and good luck!

Personally I brought the books needed for the semester plus my study ones with me daily. This semester, which was second semester for me, it was a total of about 6-8 books. The teachers will tell you to make sure you have them all handy. Invest in a GOOD backpack or rolling cart. If you get inexpensive it will fall apart on you before the semester is done, trust me I know! For first semester you will need the nursing fundamentals, the ati book (you'll get that at the school ), the care plan books, and your lab guide ( you can print that out and spiral bind it cheap if you get a membership with nsna.com) there may be others but that is all I remember off the top of my head. The books are heavy - protect your back you're going to need a good back when you graduate!
