Hey Everyone!
Thought I would be the first person to start a SPC Nursing Fall 2018 thread. Even though we still have one semester left before applying, I thought I would start a thread to get the ball rolling and to see where everyone stands. If are applying for the program in Fall of 2018, please let us know the amount of credits you will have at the time of applying and what your cumulative and program GPA's are. As for me, I will have 30 of 30 credits completed and a cumulative GPA of 3.9, with a program GPA of 4.0.
I am new to this forum so I am trying to get used to the quote thing, etc. so don't mind me if I reply to something but didn't actually reply to it...just posted a reply to no one. Doh. So I am so damn old, I have no idea where my vaccination records are but I did have titers for LPN school in early 2016. It showed that I was immune to everything we need to get checked for so you may think you are not immune after 20 years but that may not always be the case. You can be immune for a lifetime if you have a shot or had the disease. I had Chicken Pox as a kid over 40 years ago and it showed that I am still immune to it. FYI...I am concerned about this flu shot. The one and only time I had a flu vaccine about 6 years ago, I had an extremely bad reaction to it...yes, I was in mild anaphylactic shock too. For LPN school, I was the only person who would not get a flu shot so I had to wear a mask during clinicals. It sucked because those things get hot and sweaty after being there for a few hours. SPC may also have the same rules, no shot, wear mask but if they don't, I will be nervous. In that case, I will probably get the shot, take some Benadryl and have my husband (a retired RN) watch over me to make sure I don't bite the dust.P.S. My husband just informed me that vaccines when I was a kid were a lot stronger than they are now. I am 51.
Oh no! I wonder if you can get a waiver from the school? They shouldn't make people get them that have an allergy to them. I wonder if it is the egg-base that they use? I never get the flu shot and haven't even contracted the flu, but I can see why they make us get one.
Any guys on here that can help with shoe selection? What are the most comfortable shoes to wear? I was looking at those Dansko shoes, but they are so ugly! Plus, I don't want to look like I am wearing heels. LOL! Also, what kind of stethoscope is everyone getting? I really like the Littmann Lightweight II S.E. and it is not too expensive. I am thinking of getting the BP cuff and penlight set from Amazon for $14.99. It is the "White Coat" brand.
I'm not a guy, BUT I just bought a super comfortable pair of athletic-looking shoes from Sketchers (huge selection for guys and girls) with no logo or anything on them. I can't believe how nice they feel lol. Added bonus, they were discounted and they're having BOGO 50% off. And I actually bought the White Coat BP cuff and tested it out a few times. It seems to work fine, the only thing is that it doesn't seem to like to release air very well. I am going to hold out and see what the instructors say about it (I could just be doing it wrong) and then take it from there. No use sending it back if it's a user error hahah. Also got a Littmann Lightweight from Amazon and it's really nice :)
That is amazing! I am going to just do the titers first and see what immunity that I have. I don't have my immunization records and have no way of getting them. I know I received the vaccinations at school, but this was like over 25 years ago. I will probably have to get the TDAP booster though.
I had a TDAP booster in early 2016. I know the tetorifice doesn't last a lifetime and there is no titer for that. Despite my booster, I don't have the record, so I have to have another one. Booooo....

I would probably have to wear a mask all day, which I hate wearing all day. It's not eggs. I eat eggs nearly every day for breakfast and have been eating them for well over 45 years. I think it's either the Thimerosol or Formaldehyde causing the reaction. I understand the need for the shot. They don't want us getting patients more sick than they already are. They want to protect us too. I don't get the flu very often. I was a school nurse for the past year and the flu was rampant. I never got it despite treating a whole bunch of kids that were sick with it. I guess I could take Benadryl and I live a few blocks from St. Pete General if I have a reaction.

Check with the Health Department and see if they have record of your Tdap first. They had shot records for me that I thought were long gone (because I got the immunizations through my old doctor that closed her practice). I didn't even know she sent that info to the health department...so I didn't have to get another one! Yay!
