Southwestern Illinois College Summer 2016

Published

I just thought I would start a thread for those who are applying to SWIC for Summer 2016. I have taken all my courses at other universities and I already have a Bachelor's but my courses will transfer. However, I need to take Medical Terminology and Sociology over winter break to get the 4 points in the Gen Ed section. For the Chem/Algebra/Bio section, I will have 9 or 10/12 pts depending on the grade I get in my Stats course I'm currently taking. I don't have any healthcare experience so no points there. So hopefully, if I can get the maximum pts on the Pre-Nursing Exam, I will have 21 or 22 pts..this is my goal at least. Just want to find out where others are in the application process...

Congrats. So Are you done with all of your prereqs?

I am doing A & P II and nutrition this semester. I will have everything done except for the nursing courses after this semester. How are your classes going?

I'm so nervous as to what to focuse on with the study book from swic did you find that it helped you for this test? I need to get 6pts to even stand a chance at getting in it will put me at 17 and I have all my other classes done.

I just have A&P II to do. I'm taking that now. Who do you have? I'm taking Keeling.

I'm taking Keeling also!! Tuesday & Thursday nights.

I ordered 2 DET books. 1 was strategies for taking DET and the other was DET practice books. I believe they helped some with letting you know what to study especially for math. English part helped some to know what they consider proper English... lol. I think the hardest part is reading those boring passages and answering the questions based upon how you think they want you to.

Same here. I guess I'll see you tonight in class.

So are there questions over all that math practice that is in the study book? I just feel overwhelmed and am afraid that if I focus to much on something I'll forgot other stuff. And do you start with a certain section or can you go back and fourth or choose where to start first I just am worried about the time.

There wasn't any questions about medicine dosages. I know the books had those type of math questions in them. It is mainly +, -, x, / fractions and decimals. There are a few percentage questions. You don't have to know the conversions for stuff because the few questions regarding temperature (C to K or vice versa ) they give you the formula for those. Math is last. You have to go in order. It starts out with English (sentence formation, etc) then goes to reading (ugh) then to critical thinking and then math. There are about 10 or so about reading graphs. You will have 2 hrs and 45 min. I think it ended up being like 150ish questions, if I remember correctly. Good Luck!!

Thanks do you feel that was enough time for the test? That's what I worry about, that I'll freak out and take too long on questions lol then get myself in a bad spot. Was everything multiple choice like the study book is?

I used about 2 hours and 40 minutes. I feel that it was enough time. They were all multiple choice.

Well I took my DET today. Was hoping for 6 pts, only got 4. So I have 18 pts total. Totally stressing out, wish I had another point or two. Now to wait 2 months.
