Southwestern College ADN 2016

Published

Hello All,

I wanted to start this thread for those fellow applicants that applied for the Southwestern Community College Fall 2016 ADN Program. Not sure If this is a little late but I have yet to receive my notification regarding being invited or not for the program. As you can probably assume, I am extremely nervous right now and have been ever since I submitted my application. I've been in contact with Martha over there and she informed me that they were currently showing attention to the Step-Up program and they should be completed by this week. After completing their portion, the remainder of the letter will be sent out.

Has any one been offered a spot in the ADN program for the fall 2016 cohort yet?

@thatperson im planning to take the TEAS the 1st or second week in February! I'm not going to turn in any of my apps until after that. I'm pretty confident in the studying I've been doing for the English reading and math sections. The science is so broad, and I'm definitely going to need to review all of my physio notes the next couple weeks. Was there anything particular you noticed about the science section in general?

i finished most of my pre-reqs and MiraCosta. My friend applied for spring 2017 and she said that it was one of the highest cohorts point wise they have had. You needed at least 85pts to get in and the average was 89! Im hoping it won't be as high for fall 2017.

But, a friend I work with at the hospital got into grossmont's program for this semester and had pretty similar stats to mine and got in! Grossmont and Palomar take a lot more students so I'm thinking we have a pretty good chance of getting into at least one of the three programs!

@Larocquh Science was definitely ALL physio and anatomy. study most of the functions of organs, important cells, and hormones! Study the Heart as well. For Fall 2016 cohort my friend was an alternate at Miracosta and she had about 80 points. Yeah I heard Grossmont was a lot easier to get into than palomar and miracosta! I really want to go to Grossmont! haha! what are your stats?

Thanks for the tips! My stats are:

AS degree, Emt cert, work experience

4.0 gen eds

3.67 science (A in anatomy/physio, B micro)

2-3 life points

no language

TEAS- tbd, shooting for 85%

I want to go to grossmont as well!

@Larocquh we pretty much have the same stats!

I have an A in Anatomy and Physio, B in micro.

but I got a B in psychology though, and an A in the rest. For Palomar and miracosta, they count Psychology OR Sociology. So for paloamar, i get a 4.0 for the fixed set gpa. IDK if grossmont does that as well.

I have a language, cna, experience, 80 on TEAS, and 3-4 life experiences. I have 3 points for sure but IDK if they'll award me for that one difficulty/circumstances.

@BoBayla did you get accepted to the cross enrollment at SDSU? Is SDSU the only university that does Cross enrollment option for Southwestern College? What are the criteria that you know of to decide who gets in?

@thatperson your stats are great! For grossmont, they require both psychology and sociology to apply. I also noticed you were taking about immunizations and tb test earlier in this thread. I just found out earlier this week, when I was looking at grossmonts application, that they require your immunizations before you apply and it has to be turned in with your app. If you are needing a TB test or any other shots the county health department does walk in appointments for $10 flat! I was missing my hep b and dtap when I did my Emt clinical and went through them. If you need multiple shots it's still only $10! They have several locations throughout the county, the one I went to in Kearny mesa wasn't even busy and I barely had to wait. The only thing they don't do is titers unfortunately.

You can cross enrollment with SDSU she also stated you take one class in the summer you finish a few courses.

@Larocquh Oh yea I noticed that. Yeah when I went to Miramar College Health Service to get my physical and everything for southwestern, I brought my grossmont apps too! I felt bad for the nurse practitioner because she had to fill out so many papers. I also did a Titer test there for Hep b (was only 7 bucks) since I am a student during intersession. Hopefully 83 points is enough for grossmont and 85 points is enough for southwestern. I like grossmont because everyone I talked to said its one of the best ADN programs, and they have the BSN program where you stay in the campus and get your bsn thru csusm or PLNU.

@brandyP Oh yeah i remember now. Did you turn in your apps? did they go through it? I emailed the person in charge of the pre req evaluation since i didnt go to southwestern for my pre req and they never responded back. So I think I will just go there tomorrow (monday) and have them evaluate it and after hopefully turn in the app.

Do you guys know which campus the pre req office is to clear my pre req? and where do i turn in the nursing apps? thanks!!!

I turned in my apps! the lady went over each page to make sure I had everything I needed. Good luck to everyone! let the waiting begin :)

Hi @BoBayla! I was wondering if you knew what any of your LVN-RN classmates that joined in the second year of your program had (or at least what they think they had) for their points. I'm applying for the Step-Up 2017 program and have 78 points & a 91% on the TEAS. All the forums I've seen on SWC have mainly been discussing the generic program, but I know things may be a little different for the Step-Up so I wanted to figure out my chances.

Also hi to everyone else that I've already spoken too, awesome that you're in this forum too so we can chat more :)

I turned in my application for Fall 2017 last week! I didn't realize that my primary care did not sign one of the immunization sheets and I was told by the lady accepting my application that I can email her the document after I get it signed. I managed to get it signed and emailed it, in which she responded with "thank you". I hope that doesn't effect me from getting into SWC!
