Southwestern College ADN Fall 2021

Published

Starting a thread for applicants of the ADN program at Southwestern College for Fall 2021.

I was sent an email confirming my application was received by the nursing department this week.

I believe my points are 87 if they accept my life experiences and special circumstances.

With past semesters stats, I’m not too worried about my position. I might apply at Grossmont and City, but I prefer Southwestern because of their partnership with SDSU (PLNU has a poor NCLEX pass rate ?).

Remember anxiety will not speed up the process or increase your odds of acceptance ?

for the the pre req page where you fill out your classes did you guys put a grade for the CNA portion

I did not bcoz I took ny CNA classes in one of those schools that offers 22 days classes. They didn't really give any grades but I think as long as u have the CNA card  it's fine.

How long did they take them to send you a confirmation email after you send your application?

On the application it states an email confirmation that the school received your application will be sent 2-3 weeks after you sent it in.

Hi guys, I applied to SWC with 86 points. I mailed in my application on 2/16 and received the confirmation email on 2/22. Good luck!

I applied with 87 points. I sent it in 2/18 and got a response today (3/3). Not feeling confident about my points, but we’ll see.

Not sure why an 87 would make you nervous. Have you googled the point cutoff of previous cohorts? It’s usually around 75-80. And there are hundreds of applicants each year.

Correct, but due to other programs being closed or delayed because of Covid- I have heard that there are hundreds more applying this year- meaning more competitive.

True. I was reading the thread from last year. Somebody with 84 pts did not make it to the cut off. But, I guess last year was a totally different scenario bcoz almost all schools stopped admitting students for ADN program. I think grossmont nd city are re-opening but im guessing they will prioritize applicants who were on hold due to covid last year. I personally expect competition for slots to be still tough. With 86 pts (max) that I have, I myself is not confident that's why im still working on my AA just in case I don't make it this year.

Agreed! I definitely think with 86 points it would’ve been a for sure in years past.

Yes, but those students would most likely have the same points that applicants have had in prior cohorts. It’s not as if they have more points because the other schools are closed. So I’m still not worried for those who have 85+ points. Those who have 93+ points should (and usually do) apply to CSU’s, that’s just common sense. Why apply to an ADN program when you qualify for a BSN?
The people who don’t get in with 84 points have something else going on usually (missing paperwork, late application, doctor signature missing, transcripts not sent).
For the record: Grossmont, Southwestern, Palomar, Mira Costa, National, SDSU, PLNU, CSUSM all accepted applications for Fall 2021. No preference is given to those who weren’t accepted due to the pandemic. City is accepting applications in a couple months for Spring 2022.
My mother was a professor for the psych tech program at Cuesta College for over 20 years. She knows a lot about these programs and the selection process.

From what I’ve seen on past cohorts (I’ve looked years back), they don’t straight up deny you for missing stuff. Several people have said they’ve gotten phone calls for missing vaccines, signatures, etc., so I’m not sure why the chick with 84 pts got denied.
The people who couldn’t apply last year, are now applying this year, meaning the group applying is bigger. For example: 60 people with 86-89 pts applied last year, now it’s double in that same range because of closures last year. Does that make sense? I’m not trying to be a Debbie Downer, but just trying to be realistic. I see your logic, hope you can see the point I’m making also.
