On the application it states an email confirmation that the school received your application will be sent 2-3 weeks after you sent it in.

Be careful about getting your AA. If you receive financial aid, you’ll have to petition for assistance for any additional degrees (I.e. ADN). That’s why I never applied for graduation. Yes, my physical included a hearing test. It was on the physical paperwork. I would call/email the nursing department to ask if it is required. You still have time to correct the paperwork.

I absolutely bombed the English language part. I kept getting “which demonstrates a verb-subject form?” Like, what?! I even went over the questions with my neighbor who is a high school English teacher. She was even perplexed. So that was the tricky topic for me. Without that stupid subject, I would have easily earned a 92% instead of 86%

As long as the person who did your physical is in a “provider” role, and physicals are within their scope of practice, it is fine. A PA did my physical. Do you mind sharing your points for future cohorts?

Getting off the "do not hire" list?

I had a job offer, accepted it, went through the physicals, labs, and was set to start orientation on a Monday in June 2018. On the way to that orientation on Monday, my car broke down. I called, no answer. I emailed them and told them the situation. I kept trying to get ahold of them, but was also dealing with AAA and a mechanic. I finally heard back from them that afternoon. “The hiring manager is no longer interested in keeping you on. But feel free to apply again once you get your car back.” I applied soon after and was told I was blacklisted. This is Scripps Hospital system in San Diego. They are huge! I had some cardiac issue in 2019 and had to go to the closest ER, Scripps Mercy. Oh my... that was the worst experience I’ve had at a hospital, working or not. It was like Grey’s Anatomy, where they were all chatting & flirting. They would gossip about the patients right in the open. And to top it off, my ER doctor falsified my medical records in order to cover his butt. I’m glad I don’t work for Scripps! I work for Sharp Health Care now and they’re just okay. My first acute care job in super rural California was the best quality across the board, these big hospitals can’t compete!

I have heard from some NU BSN graduates that employers look down on you if you attended that school. They consider it a degree mill, not a true school that will prepare you for nursing.

I found threads on this site for several past semesters and averaged the point cut off to be around low 80’s to high 70’s. Over 85 points seems to be a guarantee.

    Southwestern College ADN Fall 2021

Starting a thread for applicants of the ADN program at Southwestern College for Fall 2021. I was sent an email confirming my application was received by the nursing department this week. I believe my points are 87 if they accept my life experiences and special circumstances. With past semesters stats, I’m not too worried about my position. I might apply at Grossmont and City, but I prefer Southwestern because of their partnership with SDSU (PLNU has a poor NCLEX pass rate 😬). ***Please read the Southwestern nursing department web site for common questions such as: when to expect acceptance, prerequisites, start dates, etc. “To be a nurse takes initiative!”*** Remember anxiety will not speed up the process or increase your odds of acceptance 😁
