Published

Hey guys. Making this for those who are applying to SWC’s (Chula Vista, CA) ADN program for Fall 2020. Application period starts soon (November 4)! Write your questions to help each other out throughout the application period. If you want, post the amount of points you have in the point system.

Here’s the amount of points I have

Associates Degree - 5 points

CNA Certification - 25 points

Science Prereq GPA - 30 points (4.0 GPA)

”Fixed Set” GPA - 8 points (3.9 GPA)

Life Experience - 3 points

Language - 3 points (Spanish, documented proficiency)

TEAS test - 15-22 points ... I still need to take the TEAS. I want to give myself enough time!

So that puts me at 89-96/100 points.

Years of hard work into one packet... and now we wait.

Good luck to you all. You guys got this.

So far only UCSD Hillcrest is allowing students. So there is only one group of students that are actually physically in clinical. While all the other groups are doing case studies and virtual clinical simulation. But from what I heard is that the faculty are in the talks with facilities on getting actual clinical placements with hospitals, but if hospitals are not allowing students they will try for clinical placements in clinics or SNFs or do on-campus simulation. As for lectures we are doing Zoom meetings, I hope to god that your Profs do pre-recorded lectures so you don't have to deal with lag that much. Hope this answers your questions.

Yes thank you! How did you find the program to be? has it been harder than you thought?

Is Zoom setup with every student in the chat? Curious because I’ve never used it and orientation is via Zoom.

Thanks for all the info.

It’s as hard as I expected it to be. I have had family and friends in this program, so I already knew it was going to be hard. Also depending on which class (day/eve) is also a factor in difficulty as well. I mean I was prepared to be stressed out of my mind when I decided to go to nursing school. ?

One advice for Zoom. Mute your mic if you are not talking because all that background noise from like 60 something people is going to drive you crazy! Yes there is a chat available for everyone to use. I usually keep my mic off and just type in the chat when I am in Zoom meetings. Also make sure your webcams are working because the prof would want to see you.

Just curious about Zoom. Can an Ipad be used for Zoom? I’ve never used Zoom.

Yup! Zoom tends to work better through the mobile app. I use my phone or iPad sometimes when I do not want to deal with laptop WiFi acting up ?

Hi guys, this is my first time commenting here. I also got offered a spot. I applied with 80 points total. I had also applied to Grossmont college with 84 points total and having had done all my pre reqs there and it being closer, it was sort of my first choice; however, they haven’t send out notifications, with a few other complications there that’s too hard to explain, having to accept a seat here by this coming Monday, and having heard that Grossmont is literally on hold with classes, I will mostly likely accept, CONGRATS to those gotten accepted and those who didn’t, keep your head up, I must not know what it is to apply more than once since this was my first time but I do believe everything happens for a reason and good things will come by if you remain positive and keep looking for ways to improve your points

Hi, guys! This is my first comment. Luckily, I got a spot. I also applied for Grossmont but it seems like they are not going to announce their decision soon so I might just take my spot because I don’t want to take a risk. I believe I had about 93 points in SWC and 88 in Grossmont. Congratulations to those who are accepted!! Don’t give up to those who are rejected!! This was my first time applied for nursing program but it took me forever to come to this moment! I’m so glad that I didn’t give up.. ?

CONGRATS!! Have you spoke to Grossmont as to when they are planning on sending out notifications?

Thank you, AJ!! Yes, I send an email to Mrs. ****** in Grossmont yesterday and asked when the college would announce their decision and she said "Due to the COVID situation, the processing of these applications is taking longer. Please check the nursing website for updates since this is where any information and updates will be posted as we get them."

It doesn’t sound like they are going to send out notification soon... ?

Sounds like an automatic message LOL. You can always accept SW just incase. Then back out and accept grossmont instead...Whatever your first choice was. I would think Grossmont would send them out soon. Usually they do around the same time as SW does. Keep us updated ? An 88 is outstanding! Your chances look good either way.

I was thinking the same thing. They can always accept and back out later if they get into the other program they wanted.
