Southwestern College ADN Fall 2017

Published

Hi everyone! I thought I'd start a whole new topic for those who applied to Southwestern's Fall 2017 cohort. This is the first time I've applied for a nursing program, so I am very excited and nervous of whats to come. I'm curious to see the amount of points you have totaled so I know what I'm up against. I totaled my points to be 74/75, so that may be low compared to some of you. I wish everyone luck and I hope to see you in August!

Huge congratz tosco94! We reply to them via email: [email protected], no later than Thursday, March 23, by 12 noon.

yeah I just emailed them accepting the spot but will give it up if accepted at palomar. Hopefully i get into palomar first before grossmont.

Thank you brandyP! I also applied to all CSUs around the Bay Area, as well as some community colleges that I am qualified for. Palomar was another one I applied to that is in the SoCal area. Honestly, I was afraid I would not be accepted because of all the rumors I hear about others applying selectively and not getting in. Therefore, I applied everywhere in CA and willing to move far, i.e. Southwestern College. I was planning to apply to SDSU but did not meet the minimum 80 TEAS mark. I am reaching for a BSN but either way, both schools will still lead me there!

Congratz in being on the alternate list, that means you do have a big chance! I am sure many of us applied to plenty of schools and I hear that most of the time, applicants end up dropping their acceptance because of a better option. For example, I will give away my spot if I get accepted closer to me, will definitely keep you updated. Either way, best of luck to you and I believe you will do great! :)

Thank you for the kind words, I didn't know that being an alternate could be a good thing, I only applied to the two schools I qualified for. I have withdrawals and most schools I disqualify for due to that. Even thought it was due to a health condition they still won't look past the "w' so I really hope there are people who will get their first school of choice and that I will be accepted. I heard there is only 10 people on the alternate list if this is true I have more hope than yesterday. I will be honest I cried, I worked hard last semester did 31 credits (with can) just to have a chance so I hope our hard work pays off. Like I said you have some amazing points I haven't seen 88 points yet. You will have multiple choices yay!

Hello,

I spoke to the nursing department at swc today, they stated that the wait list is currently at 20 but that could change. I hope changes as in goes down!

They can't disclose where you are on the waitlist. I'm so worried.

I really hope you get in brandyP!! you seem so passionate about the program! Don't give up hope! I'm sure many of us who are hoping to get into other programs will forfeit our spots when we do so. Good luck!

Congrats on getting into sdsu and swc! I feel ya on how expensive the bsn programs can be, that's why I'm going the adn route and then will bridge for my bsn after.

What do you like about Palomar? I also applied to Palomar and MiraCosta but I don't know much about Palomars program and would love to hear more.

My apologies, 83 not 88. Wow your hard work will pay off brandyP!!! I was disqualified for many programs as well and many points deducted from programs that do count Ws. I have 5 Ws from my Anat and Phys because of personal issues and technical issues with the Registrar Office that does not agree to remove some Ws because of a mistake of their end. I was really hesitant about getting into any program because of the Ws in the science courses and a C and some repeats in chemistry. I dropped out of high school and took my GED, had no background of science, struggled through college in the science courses but definitely made it through. Either way, I would like to send you good vibes and hope because that will get us further!

WOW! have you ever been an alternate?

I am still waiting on other programs to reply, most of them will within these two months! I have been turned away by the lottery. This is the first program I got into by points, luckily they did not count us against the Ws. That would have been a chunk of points deducted...

@brandyP, did you hear anything back from them via email after you accepted your alternate position?

No I didn't.

Hi everyone!

So nice and cool to see this post! I've been wanting to know so much more about the ADN Program at SWC cus I've been anxiously waiting to hear from them all this time T_T Before I submitted my application, I calculated my points to 83/100 and received the letter offering me a spot (finally) on March 8th, at 12:17PM. I sent them an email accepting my spot like 30 minutes or so later. I have two friends who are waitlisted and I really really hope they get in as well. I had originally planned to apply only to SWC and Grossmont since they're the only ones I could afford but my main goal was SWC. I ended up not applying to Grossmont because my health insurance had expired, etc. so I took a really big risk just applying to one school. When I was prepping my application, I saw a couple counselors and they said the average for the program was 77. I also spoke to Martha (who's in charge of paperwork and stuff at the department) about whether or not she thinks I have a shot in getting in the program with my 83 points and she was like, "yeah you have a pretty good shot." I applied to the LVN program as a back up plan just in case I didn't get in ADN and I actually got in but I had to turn down my spot since the program was starting this Spring 2017 and in the off chance that ADN does take me, I would've wasted money and time in LVN when my ultimate goal is ADN.

I'm so glad that things worked out and I'm so stoked to see everyone who's attending the program at orientation!!! Best of Luck guys! :)
