I just wanted to start a topic for this upcoming Southwestern ADN cohort (Fall 2018)! What are everyone's stats? (GPA, Teas, etc). I'm also applying at San Diego City, Palomar College, Grossmont and National University.
Hey guys! Last year I did about a paragraph for each written statement (difficult circumstance and first generation in college). I also submitted a letter from my old job verifying I worked there and some pay stubs to cover the extra point for working during my prereqs. I think for the disability and FAFSA points you need to submit official documentation. Otherwise you should be getting points for them. I think there's a max of 5 points you can get from that section. But I believe I got all the points I was trying for last year, as my statements were honest and I had official documents for the points that required them. It should be the same for this year. One thing they did change since last year's application period, however, is the 3 points you get from speaking another language. If you didn't take classes for them and/or have transcripts for 3 semesters of a foreign language, you need to have a form filled out by someone you've worked with (can't be a friend or relative) that attests that you are fluent in that language. The form states that if you are caught at any time during the program to have lied on that form, that you'll be dismissed from the program immediately. My guess is there were some students that probably lied about it and got caught when they were already in the program? Which is probably why they're cracking down on this year's applicants. Soo intense lmao.
And yes last we should be hearing back in March! That's when I was notified last year. They will be communicating via swccd.edu emails, not personal emails. So make sure to constantly check your campus email once March begins. :) Also I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that my counselor said he believes this year's average is seemingly lower than last year's. Not sure if he was only talking about the Step Up program, or about the generic program as well!
One more thing that may help you guys feel more at ease: when calculating your points, do NOT include + or - signs! Southwestern does not use those when calculating GPAs. This was a great help for me because I had an A- in Micro that dropped my science GPA down to a 3.46, but without the minus, I actually have over a 3.5. Therefore I was awarded the extra 5 points. It made a huge difference for me, and I hope it plays in your favors as well!
Good luck everyone, keep us all updated on your progress and whatnot! I hope we all get accepted and get to see each other on campus this year! :)
Yes. I had them fill out the paper work
Did you take it when you got it done? I was under the impression that the form was to be filled out if you got the shot through SWC health services. I got mine back in September and didn't have the form. It was signed off on my immunization form and documented on my immunization record, but I was not asked for that specific form when turning in my application.

Thank you I am looking at the comments from last year and some students actually made it in the program with 72-73 points. I hope that is the case this year as well
