Southwestern College ADN Fall 2018 Cohort

Published

I just wanted to start a topic for this upcoming Southwestern ADN cohort (Fall 2018)! What are everyone's stats? (GPA, Teas, etc). I'm also applying at San Diego City, Palomar College, Grossmont and National University.

Not that we know of. Only weekend/evening (W/E). But we don't know for sure.

I'm also currently in the program. Second term.

also, second years in W/E have class Monday's and Wednesday's, and clinicals Sunday's. So it may be the same for us second year, which would apply to Lvn step up applicants.

@LiveYourDreams @jacjacjac Wow, thank you for the information. That's a relief because I plan on working during school and I know morning / weekday classes would be a challenge with my work schedule. Definitely crossing my fingers to get accepted. I have 84 points, was accepted last year with 83 points but had to turn it down for a good job opportunity. Hoping this year I get lucky again!! How is the homework load for the most part?

I chose W/E because I prefer classes to start later in the day so I could catch up with assignments and study. You will be using A LOT of time studying and doing assignments. Nursing school is very time consuming. I work only 20 hours max each week and have fellow classmates who work part-time and some that work full-time as well. It may feel overwhelming and it will be exhausting since a lot of the material is new, but the key is to create study groups and help each other out. The instructors are always willing to help with anything that may seem unclear and that's what I appreciate about our program.

Hi all! I just submitted SWC application and starting my Grossmont application. I heard SWC was accepting people below 70s a year or two ago. So the possbilities are endless. Crossing my fingers we all get in!

@jacjacjac That's great to know. Thanks for sharing that. Since the W/E cohort only has clinicals one day on the weekend, how many hours are you there for? What are the clinical sites and how do you like them?

@FUTURENURSE_MD Hi there! Good luck to you! :)

@FUTURENURSE_MD I am applying with lower points as well. Have you thought about applying for LVN program as well. I know they will be accepting applications starting next week. I am applying just as a back up. Good luck !

Good luck to everyone as we enter the one month waiting period! Let's keep each other updated :)

Hey @leighannquismo,LVN when you first applied, when did u get the email for the dosage calc?

I got the email regarding the dosage calculation test on March 1st, took the test on March 9th, and got my acceptance letter March 14th. They are fairly prompt. If I may ask, how many points are you going in with? Do you know of anyone else applying to the Step-Up?

I have nowhere near the points you have. I only have about 77 points :/ couldn't get my AA points on time. I went to the office twice for my application, and didnt see that many lvn-adn people signed in. It was mostly adns. So hopefully there weren't that many lol.for the dosage calc is it fill in the blank? Scantron? How long did u study/ review for?

Stay positive! Its all about who applies. Last year I would estimate maybe only 30-40 people applied. That's what it looked like during the dosage test at least. Yes I agree, I didn't see many on the sign on list either. Less is better :) The dosage test is really short and straight forward, I think I remember it being 10 or so questions. You just show your work and circle your answer. I only studied for maybe an hour the night before. Its not too extensive, just make sure you can do metric conversions, dosage calculations, and IV drip rates. If you get those down it will be a breeze.
