South University FNP MSN program???

Updated:   Published

So did anyone or is anyone currently in the FNP or Adult NP online program at this time? I spoke to an admissions rep and was really impressed. The set up is nice with one course at a time, although was told you can talk to your advisor and sometimes layer your courses here and there as well (like an 11wk course with one 5.5 wk course) which I'd prefer to do to get done faster...since I did my ASN at Excelsior and am finishing my BSN I'm well used to online format courses and have my time down to a science. I was planning on beginning my application process now, so that in December we submit everything with the potential to start the first week of Feb 2014...anyone else??? Any thoughts???

Can I also have the link to the facebook page, I start the program next week!

Thanks

I am day's away from starting the MSN NP Program at South University and I feel totally confused and unprepared. How do I get textbooks and reading materials? I am a mom to two young kids. I like to start reading ahead to prep for each course and would like to know how I can get a hold of necessary texts, resources and handouts. I appreciate your time and help.

I need the Facebook page as well. I start next week and I am scared.....

When is your start date, mine is the 6th of this month

Hi guzziaglobal,

Most text books are e-books, but can not be downloaded until the first day of the class. I am the same way about getting started early!!! You can find out the books required for your class and purchase a hard copy before class starts, but I enjoy the e-books, plus the prices are included in your tuition.

Could someone forward the FB page link thanks so much! In research now next class is practicum at South😉

SU helps you a little and I think is starting to help more. They give you a list of all the sight they have used in your state in the past. I used health grades and searched for all the nurse practitioners in my area. I just called their office and said I was a student wanting to do clinicals with them and that usually got me to someone who could answer yes or no. I have not had any trouble finding one but I am currently having trouble with the sight and preceptor herself. But hopefully SU will assist me through this because I do not feel that I am at fault. Also check with AANP and your state associations. There are also groups on FB and linked in that are helping students get preceptors and some paid services out there that can do it for you. Good Luck. SU is just like any other school in the fact that you will have issues and bumps along the way. So far they have been good to work with me but this situation will be the kicker. If they help me out and work with me then I will praise them until the cows come home!!!!

Hey Everyone,

I was able to obtain my BSN while working third shift full time and being a single parent. It does take a lot of dedication and faculty are not sources of motivation at all. I have found support from my advisor. I finished my BSN in February 2014. I gave myself a month break and I started on to go for my Master's in Nursing Education. I felt like they were just like the BSN courses; however, the material became more intense in my opinion. I am currently finishing up my first practicum. I have one more practicum that started in three weeks and then I will have completed all of my courses for the MSN November 28, in just three months. I have also worked full time as a third shift nurse while in this program and I am a single mother. It takes a lot of sacrifice. The biggest challenge in the program was finding my practicum sites. The last two courses are 11 weeks and each course requires a separate practicum course with 88 hours of on site practicum for each course. No one in my area was willing to help me as far as using them for a practicum site. This set me behind 30 days because I had to wait for the next course to open up. I had to travel over an hour away for my first practicum site and then my next practicum site for my last course is a local tech school nearby has agreed for me to be their guinea pig for their first practicum nursing student experience. Overall, I have had a really good experience in the program. I do feel they could do better at helping students find local practicum sites instead of saying, "aww... keep trying... something is out there..." I would advise for someone who wants to go to school at SU to network with other schools to get their practicum site lined up. Otherwise, I think this school has been great for me and my schedule.
