Nursing Board troubles
Help......I do not know what to do! I graduated NP school in Feb 2016, passed boards in March. Found out in Jan 2016 that I had a complaint regarding a psychiatric patient at previous employer from 2014. I hired an attorney and met for the initial interview with a board investigator. When I apply for my APRN in March, I get no response at all and my attorney informs me that until this is cleared up they will not grant my APRN. I do not think this is fair. I have been an RN for 23 years and they only issue I have is not reporting an arrest in 1999 which they disciplined me for in 2009. I had a job waiting for me as a NP who sent in my supervising physician info before I found out the board was not going to grant my license. SO now my attorney says the board has taken back their offer for discipline because of the supervising physician issue, I never started that job so I don't have a supervising physician. I am so confused and frustrated, my attorney is a rude jerk and I think he is actually hurrying my case more than helping. Any advise would be great.

South University FNP MSN program???
The paper writing does slow down some once you start your clinical rotation, however, you have quizzes and midterm and final and typhon entry so pick your poison!

Low nurse wages in Health Department - worth it?
I am sure that every state and area are different. PH nurses in my state make approx $40,000 a year and they do have good benefits. I am not going to say the state because of what I am about to say. The administration for the health departments were the biggest bunch of snobs I had ever seen. The administrator was not a RN or PA or MD or DO. They were minute managers, bored most of the day I think. Most of the professionals acted like they were worked to death when I thought "good grief, I would die of boredom." I was doing my NP clinical rotation and a NP shared with me an experience she had with the nursing board. SO I shared mine which occurred 8 years prior and was concerning a personal matter that happened almost 15 years ago. This had nothing to do with patient care. I was told the next week that I could not return to that site, I almost got kicked out of my NP program and was told that they did not feel safe with me learning there. I was very upset. They had signed a contract, obviously broke it, I had passed a background check to get into my school and had gone through a federal back ground check for a job about 5 years ago. So.......just saying "watch your back and who you tell any personal stuff too!!" Some of the staff that worked there also said that they were policy happy and would write a new policy for every little thing and then ding you on them. I do know the NP I followed had to go by like 4 different guidelines and some contradicted each other. Just sounds like a disaster to me.

What are some things that you wish you would've known as a novice nurse?
I have been a RN for 23 years now. As a novice RN, I wish someone would have told me to learn how to be assertive but not overly assertive. Remember to be completely as professional as possible at all times, even if someone else has lost their mind. Just smile and say "bless your heart." If you feel you are being asked to do something that may threaten you license, DO NOT DO IT. But otherwise, getting into a battle with co-workers, doctors, or your boss will just turn out bad. Stay at a job for at least 3-4 years and then move on if you want but if you leave earlier than that, you will be seen as a RN who can't get along with people. I saw it as experience in many different field since nursing can take you in a thousand different places. But most of all remember that the board of nursing is not your friend and run run run from those nurses who "eat their young." Otherwise, assess your patient's, assess them again, and assess them again. Never chart what you did not do, only chart what you saw or did! You should be fine. This is a great profession but sad to say, you have to watch your back and cover your ass. Go back to school ASAP for a BSN and then when you are comfortable, I would say at least 10 maybe 15 years, go for your MSN. I suggest NP but whatever you like. Enjoy!! Go forth and do good things!!

South University FNP MSN program???
SU helps you a little and I think is starting to help more. They give you a list of all the sight they have used in your state in the past. I used health grades and searched for all the nurse practitioners in my area. I just called their office and said I was a student wanting to do clinicals with them and that usually got me to someone who could answer yes or no. I have not had any trouble finding one but I am currently having trouble with the sight and preceptor herself. But hopefully SU will assist me through this because I do not feel that I am at fault. Also check with AANP and your state associations. There are also groups on FB and linked in that are helping students get preceptors and some paid services out there that can do it for you. Good Luck. SU is just like any other school in the fact that you will have issues and bumps along the way. So far they have been good to work with me but this situation will be the kicker. If they help me out and work with me then I will praise them until the cows come home!!!!

Help! Preceptor conflict.....
UPDATE: Now I have been told I am being dismissed due to an issue with the nursing board. The issue occurred in 2009, was fully disclosed to my school and the background check company, was due to failing to report being arrested in 1999. Was never suspended or on probation. Ordered to take a class and pay a fine but of course my board of nursing has it online! The arrest can't even be pulled up because it was sealed and 15 years ago. Still think this is absurd to do to a student in the middle of a rotation.

Help! Preceptor conflict.....
I am in my 3rd clinical of 5 from graduation of Family Nurse Practitioner. I was dismissed from my clinical site. I DO NOT KNOW WHY!!! Notified by email by my instructor. The contract says I can only be dismissed if break office or clinical procedure or guidelines. I did not do that. I was not given a copy of any guidelines. My preceptor is flat out mental. Happy the sad or mad, hot and cold, and gets very offended when asked for any rationale!! She also made multiple threatening and demeaning comments. Waiting on my school's response. I am beyond devastated, mad, hopeless, and on the verge of a breakdown. What do I do?? I was never unprofessional and they say I was because I lost my name tag 1 day out of 20, but found it. They say I did not follow dress code. Had lab coat, professional dress, hair done, make up, closed toed shoes, the whole thing!! Said I used a computer to document clinical hours. It was my computer and I was told ok. Said I was on FB. I am in a clinical discussion group and told my preceptor about a topic. WE RESEARCHED it because they poster was wrong. She printed out an article for me. And I would not adhere to clinic hours. My husband has a medical issue (NEW) that he had to have test for (NEVER BEEN SICK) so I was late, but told her and she said ok, but then told I had to do 8-5 period. So I did 8-5 and if not, I didn't schedule that day. So now I am 80,000 in debt due to student loans and screwed!!! What can I do?? This is not right!! Oh and midterm eval was ok. 2nd preceptor eval ok. Previous clinical site preceptor evals good!! I am soooo mad......please help or comment if experienced anything like this......
