South University FNP MSN program???

Nursing Students NP Students

So did anyone or is anyone currently in the FNP or Adult NP online program at this time? I spoke to an admissions rep and was really impressed. The set up is nice with one course at a time, although was told you can talk to your advisor and sometimes layer your courses here and there as well (like an 11wk course with one 5.5 wk course) which I'd prefer to do to get done faster...since I did my ASN at Excelsior and am finishing my BSN I'm well used to online format courses and have my time down to a science. I was planning on beginning my application process now, so that in December we submit everything with the potential to start the first week of Feb 2014...anyone else??? Any thoughts???

JennaBean,

Many thanks for your post and for sharing your positive experience with SU. It certainly helps many of us to make such a difficult decision by following in the path you've trailed with much more confidence in the institution as well as the outcome.

I'm looking to start this fall and I'm excited about the journey, please check in with us every so often to share some wisdom throughout the process.

If you don't mind, I'd like to ask about your track (family or adult) and also which state you did your practicums (maybe I could look into same sites, if in FL) and lastly, which boards did you take (CCNE or ANCC).

Thanks in advance for sharing your journey with us, I'm very grateful there are individuals out there willing to help.

Have a terrific weekend!

Ted

Thank you!

I decided to post because I too was skeptical before applying to SU because of bad reviews. But you have to realize that many people only post reviews when they are upset. I am the type of student that learn well with little direction. I had no problem with SU. I attended one of the best undergraduate nursing programs in South Carolina and still felt like I taught myself a lot of the material and retained information only when I read material and books at home.

I live in SC and obtained my clinical rotations here.

I took the AANP.

I completed the FNP track.

Specializes in ER.

Do they limit where you can do your clinical sites? Someone said you cannot do any in an ER and I may have a better chance at getting some of the clinical rotations at the ER. I understand not all of them but a small chunk.

I have applied to the FNP and should start at the end of the month. I don't know how to PM on here, but my email is [email protected] if anyone is starting, or currently in the program and would like to do a support group. Does Florida accept this degree? I know NY is very rigid with online NP programs...

have you finished the program? I am in the process of applying.. I have read mixed reviews.. Can you send me some info on it?

Hi, new poster here. I have been debating between South University and Frontier, but I was wondering whether South University had any on campus requirements?! I spoke with an admissions rep and everything sounded great but I forgot to ask that question. I am looking for an online program that does require a visit prior to the start of clinicals so that I can atleast feel like I have a very basic understanding of some of the procedure I am be expected to perform during clinicals. Anyone have any information regarding this? Thanks

Hi Gin123, I spoke with my admissions rep a couple of days ago and specifically asked about on campus requirements and she said that there are NONE. They will send a rep out to your chosen clinical site for review and the only time you have to go to campus is to walk and graduate if you choose to do so. I am looking to start either this month or next month, but have been very skeptical. A lot of folks from my area (north central Florida) choose to go to University of South Alabama. From what I can tell the programs are quite similar, but USA makes you go to the campus at least once during the program for exams and clinical. I read one post on here from 2013 I believe that said they had a friend who had to go on campus with only 3 weeks notice for something, but it sounded like that was an unusual circumstance and situation. When I talked to my admission person it did seem like they were in a rush to get me going, but I can understand that to a certain extent, I just want to make sure that I am making the right decision with this investment of my time and money. Good luck with whichever route you go with!

My admissions rep said that your clinical experiences have to be in a primary care setting within the FNP program. No ER, etc. but I read online that in rural areas where your choices are limited that you can discuss with your academic adviser and work something out if necessary.

I am looking to start this summer as well. My admissions rep wants a start of June 29th, but that is so fast!!! I wasn't really expecting that quick of turn-around to be honest!

Thank you for the reply. I am a little concered about that becasue I do want the lab/simulation learing exp. prior to entering clinicals. Also, I do live in rural area, so it is good to know they will work with that but it still sounds a little tougher than other programs who may be more open to the idea.

Hey JMHanna I cannot private message but I would love to join the group I have been in the FNP program since January of this year.....my email addresss is [email protected]
