Sometimes I just feel like saying " What's the Point?"

Published

In even applying. I have now been rejected from 4 nursing programs within the past year. And today i can add two ore rejection letters to that list. What sucks about it is this University was 15 minutes away from my house, and I had a scholarship to go there. I am still waiting to hear back from two ADN community college programs. One of these colleges does not do student loans, so that will be an issue, and the other is an hour drive. I just feel so discouraged sometimes about everything. Science and medicine is my passion, and i feel as if nobody will give me a chance to show them that i can and will excel in their program. Im not an awful student. I have a 3.00 GPA and I made A's in AP1 and AP2. Along with B's in my other courses. I have been waiting a whole year to get accepted somewhere and everytime i think about all the hard work ive put in, it makes me want to break down and cry. I just needed one good thing to happen this summer, amongst all the other turmoil in my life. One of these CC ive applied to has already rejected me twice before, so why would this time be any different? I just feel like giving up.

like my dad always says "you gotta be in it to win it". if you keep applying and keep trying, you have a chance, if you stop applying, you will NEVER be a nurse.

rejection is hard to deal with. especially after working your butt off in pre-nursing classes.

Don't EVER give up on your dreams. You may have try the LPN to RN route (if you're not a LPN already). At least then you have another option as far as getting in schools. it may not be the most attractive option, but its an option.

You still have two schools that you haven't heard from. You never know what could happen. Tomorrow you could get 2 acceptance letters in the mail and you'll be posting about choosing one! :)

I'm sorry you are feeling so down. please don't let your dreams dry up like a raisin in the sun.

I'm so sorry. I know this must be very frustrating and discouraging. In my area, they say the gpa for nursing is 3.7+, but I know a few colleges that have lowered the gpa to 3.1 to get in. I know that doesn't help you feel any better. I had to drop out of college 15 yrs ago, and am now 36 going back. I hated having to walk away from college & my nursing dream, but I was able to stay within the field, and loved every minute of it. Although I will admit I had moments of jealousy and was so envious of nurses. I was fortunate to find jobs where the physicians found me valuable and treated me as if I were a nurse/ med assistant(meaning they trained me and allowed me to do things that a nurse or MA would do).

ALthough CNA can be a tough job, I really loved it, and being there for the elderly in the nursing home.

Here's an idea of what you can do if you don't get accepted right now. It's probably what I would do if I were in your shoes. I'd get with a counselor and chose some degree to go with so you can use your scholarship(congrats on that). Its always a plus to have a degree, no matter what it is. Then look into CNA, or even getting a job, any job at a hospital.

When I worked at a hospital, I saw many enviromental services(janitorial) & unit secretaries be able to get trained and into a nurse tech or nursing assistant toye position, and then the hospital also can help you pay towards school, so maybe you can retake some classes to get your gpa up.

The worst thing you can do is to give up & ealk away form your education. PLEASE DONT DO THAT!! I hated and have regretted letting 15+ years go by, even if finances was the main problem of me not beign able to return or continue. Still finances are tough now, but I refuse to let go of my dream. Nursing is my passion, it is all I know(whether I will become one or not, the medical field is me).

So keep your head up, and just find some temporary alternative paths to follow until you get your nursing degree.

Just don't give up, you have worked too hard already to give up. (Oh side note, practically all my prereqs that I took 15 yrs ago, I had to retake now, so that was frustrating, and I was ready to say forget it, I'll never be a nurse.. but I retook those courses, and it has paid off. I didn't get into the ASN, but I got PN and an alternate for ASN. It's a start, and I'm not quitting this time,+ I'm getting alittle old to put it off much longer:)

Oh kayruhh..I'm so sorry. I find myself asking "what's the point??" all too often lately and I haven't even applied anywhere yet! These programs are so competitive and although I work my butt off, I don't always get A's. It is very frustrating, but it does not mean that we can never be nurses. We just have to go the extra mile. Is there anything you can do to boost your GPA or points? I know retaking a class you got a B in SUCKS, but try retaking one science course at a time to really focus. Have you revised your letters of intent each time? Volunteer somewhere you feel passionate about. I don't know if these are things you want to hear, but DO NOT GIVE UP! "Good things come to those who wait" and someday you will get in. Keep your chin up, girl. *hugs*

Bless your heart. Good luck!! I am nervous for you

You had A's in A&P 1 & 2 and you still did not get accepted??? Oh my that is scaring me!! I do not know what to expect once I start applying!!!

Write emails and letters and make appointments, thanking them for the consideration and opportunity to apply and ask for tips on how to improve your application. There has got to be something in common in these situations that is causing you not to get accepted somewhere. It might be something stupid. I did this when I was applying for undergrad progs (albeit in architecture, but still applies). I applied early admission at 3 schools and was outright denied at all 3. As it turned out my essay could have been better and the people I had write my letters of recommendation were NOT the kind of people I should have had do it (yes, teachers...using bad grammar and format... looked really bad but I had never actually SEEN the letters so I didn't know until the admissions people told me about it).

I always like to include a cover letter on applications as well (as if I were applying for a job). Its also nice to sometimes include a resume. Some times its the little things that go a long way to set yourself apart from the other applicants, especially when you have hundreds or thousands of competitors.

Also, What the heck school doesn't have financial aid opportunities ?!?!??

Thanks everyone for the kind words:) I can always count on allnurses to pick me up! My family, particuraly my mom, always says, " Why cant you get in? its not that hard. Anyone can get into nursing school." Uhm. No mom! Lol.

I live about as far south as you can get in Alabama. There are only two CC colleges that have an ADN program. Faulkner has a great program but is over an hour away, and then there's Bishop State. Bishop is the CC that doesnt do loans, just grants, and it is in downtown Mobile up in the Ghetto! lol! The area is so sketchy around it I would deff be buying a little pistol to carry with me to school if i got in there! lol. :)

If I dont get into these two programs, Im just gonna finish taking classes for my BSN and go for that since I plan on getting My Doctorates in Nursing! There are a few out of state colleges like Southern Miss, University of Mississippi, and University of Western Florida, that I could apply to for that, Along with South Alabama and University of Mobile. Im trying to stay bright and positive and look ahead to the future!

These next few weeks are gonna be killer waiting on my letter from Faulkner, which should be here about 21 days from now! If I dont get in there, Ill be stalking my mailbox for Bishop State's letter which will be here mid July! I have a feeling im gonna be a crazed lady by the end of this summer! lol.

I competely understand how you feel I am waiting for a letter from Bishop and a readmit letter from Faulkner. I thought I was the only one going Mailbox and interact crazy. I even went as much as pulling out my acceptance letter from last year so I can see when exactly I can expect it this year. I also check my degree plan on interact everyday because once you're accepted they automatically change it over. That's how I found out last year, and then the next day I got my letter in the mail. Well best of luck to you. And keep us posted once you get some news.

Guys... this is incredible!:yeah:The same day I posted a question for tcstr05 about what exactly they change in interact account (a student's account at Faulkner State) if they accept you, I decided to check my degree plan....just in case...and they changed it! Now my degree plan appears as:

NURSING (ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSE - RN) That means that: I got acepted in the program! :redlight: I am so excited and happy! A lot of hard work is left behind and a lot of it is still waiting for me, but I was never ever so excitied before!

I wish all of you to get in and - never ever give up! No matter what.

kayruhh - will be praying for you to get accepted this time! Only because of the persistence and courage you have being demonstrating you totally deserve it! You're the perfect example of how one should cheerfully follow his heart through hard work and discipline.

Your degree plan will be changed to nursing.
