I was able to connect a family with the local Lions Club to get their child an eye exam and glasses. The mother was so grateful, she could not say thank you enough. The relief and joy in her voice when I called to tell her nearly brought me to tears.

This kind of thing brings me back. We make a difference, probably more than we ever know.

Fantastic, it's wonderful when you know you've really made a difference in a child's life.

I had a few vision and hearing screens to do on some late enrollees today, and I kept this story in mind while doing my screenings! Something like a vision screen can feel so minor sometimes compared to everything else we do, or everything that non-nurses expect us to do. But, sometimes it's those very basic tasks that, when done well, can make such an impact!

I feel so accomplished when I send a referral and a child comes back with glasses. I mostly work at the preschool level and I have a ton of kids who just can't understand the process so it feels like a waste of time some days.
A couple months ago, I sent home a hearing referral for a 4 year old. A couple weeks ago, his dad came in with a hearing report with sensorineural hearing loss and plans to fit for hearing aids. Felt really good to have made a difference for this family.
