So What, I Skipped Class!!

Published

Yeah I skipped class, so what. It was a nice day outside. If I hear one more thing about a freaking kidney or creatine, I think I might explode!!!

Well that's how I felt until today in lab class...

I walked into lab an hour late thinking about how wonderful and sneaky I was for skipping class...................WRONG! The night I decided to skip was the night that he gives out a 100pt in-class assignment.

My teacher pulled me to the side and asked why I was not in class. I quickly told him a 1/2 lie about how my toddler was sick(he really was) and how I didn't have anyone to watch him(lie)(this is a classic lie, it goes along with "my dog ate my homework"). He gave me an evil smile and told me to go in the next room to take this quiz. On top of my quiz he left me a little special note stating "Do not ramble on with BS because of lack of knowledge, I will ultimately give you a zero and it will make my grading easier." With this in mind I only put down what I actually knew and placed it on his desk without him looking. I went back to lab feeling really stupid and thinking about what I should say to him if he asked me why I didn't know the material. Let's just say that I dashed out the lab before he could talk to me.

As of April 1st, I Brynn will study and try to go to class. I will quit my lazy ways and to stop acting like everything will come easily for me!

If you seriously want to become a nurse, go to class don't matter how much you don't feel like it.....remember only the students with the top grades get accepted into the programs. Don't throw it away! You sound like a smart, intelligent young lady, don't shoot yourself in the foot.

.....now I sound like your mother.....LOL

To combat the people saying (and rightly so) that class is always important, you must always go, unless you're deathly ill..

There is a lot to say for your own personal health, mental as well as physical, in succeeding in nursing school. I am a good student and I am very conscienscious about my classwork - but every once in a great while, I have to take a personal day. I work full time and try to have a life on the side, besides school and work. Sounds like the OP has her plate full with a toddler at home. Sometimes it is needed to take a day off of class. I think I would have gone with "my child was sick" and left it at that. AT least the instructor let her make up the assignment. But hopefully she got the mini-break she needed with skipping class, and can come back fresh and ready to go again. Good luck to you OP with your classes and the toddler at home!

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. And especially not now. Missing a 100 pt quiz, and then taking it unprepared could cost a student their place in the actual nursing program. It comes down to that. That is how competitive it is.

You are playin gRussian Roulette when you pick the day to skip. You have just been lucky so far, but not all are. And now they are now longer in programs. Some programs actually have mandatory attendance, and unless you have a valid reason for missing, the instructor has the right not to pass you.

Aww Brynn, I hate to see everyone dogging on you. I'm sorry you had to learn a hard lesson but hopefully this will motivate you through the end of the semester. This is the HARDEST time of the year to go to class because the academic year is almost over and the weather is beautiful... stick with it girl- even the best of us have needed a break once in awhile :)

OK, I don't know where to begin....

Guys this thread was suppose to be kinda in good humor.

The missing the quiz wasn't that serious, that's why he put the note on top and let me take it.(my teacher has an amazing sense of humor) The reason why it's not serious b/c it not a normal quiz, it was a "PRS" quiz. "PRS" is a system we use for atendance and to answer questions in class. Our teacher has about 500 possible pts for these when we really only can get about 300 of these pts, leaving us with 200 free pts. If you get the answer right, you will get 2 pts, if you get it wrong, you'll get 1 pt. Usually he doesn't bother letting us retake these questions but he did it for me to being the person that he is. The reason why I dashed out of class is because I knew that he was going to take my paper and ask me 1000 question about like why did you say that the kidney does this or that while making me put away the cadaver (he knows I hate putting away that heavy body away!)

I am not retarded I know that it is going to take alot to go to nursing school and that attendance is important!! Most of you guys probably skipped a class of two just to get a break. I know that I need a break sometimes since I go to school, work, volunteer, and take care of my son. At one point in my life, I was so stressed out that I formed ulcers. By the way, did I forget to mention that I just recovered from a spontaneous pneumothorax?

Anyways, thanks for your responses and I am sorry for making my thread seem more serious than what it actually was!

It does seem like Murphy's Law in action doesn't it?

I have yet to skip class this year for that very reason. I just know that the one time I do miss will be the one time I shouldn't have. As much as I would love to play hookey just once, I am too paranoid to do it.

Oh well, I never did like relying one someone else's note taking skills.

I can't see how anyone can miss a class or lab with my current micro teacher....she is so slick and sneaky....the second you blink an eye you miss a crucial thing which will be on the test....but then maybe something is wrong with me and I am just stupid or something....I don't miss class unless it is a true emergency! The proof is in the pudding, the ones that cut class also don't get competitive grades. My science classes are ALL weed-out classes and I can't afford to take it lightly. More power to the ones who can....;)

I vote for slick and sneaky. There is nothing wrong with you and you're not stupid. You seem like a sharp cookie to me.

Another thing is that my teacher has 2 diff. lectures and that we are allowed to "class hop" My class (Fri. night) is ahead of the (MWF) class. you will still be able to do the same PRS questions. The morning class is always coming to the night lecture when they don't feel like getting up 8 in the morning.

Also, our teacher gives us our lecture notes and does a streaming video of his lectures.

Like I said before this is suppose to be kinda humorous!
