So tired of crappy treatment by seasoned nurses!

This is a vent,nothing personal...

Dear experienced nurse

1.I'm so tired of the shock on your face when I tell you I'm a new nurse and I'm planning to work with you administering flu shots,no I dont need tons of experiences,I might be a new nurse but I have some experience with IM injections, been working home health for 3 months now,now I really regret telling you that I'm a new nurse, sorry to share this enthusiasm, you taught me to lie about my experience even though I hate lies!!

2.I came to observe you so the next time I have to close the flu clinic I would know what the heck I'm suppose to do.Dont stand there and just do your thing and ignore me.Yes,I know you have been working whole day and you are tired, have a long ride home but little courtesy wouldnt hurt.

I'm so sick of more experienced nurses treating new grads like the worse evil.

On days like this I really wonder why did I chose a career that that is flooded by such vicious people.

Ok you have a point. I wasn't there.

My info comes directly from the op 's post. She didn't like what she interpreted as shocked looks from the nurse, she didn't like that the nurse didn't talk much to her. No where in her post do I see that the nurse was rude, only that the OP didn't like clinic nurse response.

At your hospital observing means training. Fair enough. But do you show up on a floor to "observe" without making prior arrangements? And if you did would you truly expect the nurse trying to complete her shift duties to accomodate for your unplanned time? What if she couldn't for whatever reason?

arrogant --according to oxford dictionary-means presumptious or presuming

The op presumed that because she took initative and showed up(unplanned) to observe the nurse that therefore the nurse must be willing to precept/mentor/orientate her. When said nurse did not do so--said nurse became a rude and vicious.

No where in my posts have I attacked the OP--just her presumption that because she showed up uplanned that the nurse was vicious, unkind when she didn't give OP what she wanted.

The position that OP took is at a Mollen flu clinic. They provide online education, and then most employees run the clinic based on that training. Some, based on recommendations from others on the thread here at allnurses, have decided to go observe the clinic set up and tear down procedures. This is NOT paid training. It is NOT done at the suggestion or request of Mollen. The training that is provided is online, and OP was aware of that when she took the position.

The nurse at the clinic may have been rude. She probably didn't understand why OP was there to observe, because it's not part of the standard procedure. It wasn't called for if she was rude. But I just wanted to shed some light on why OP didn't receive "training" from the nurse that she felt was rude -- she wasn't supposed to. OP took the initiative to go on her own, which is excellent. Hopefully her next experience and interaction with this individual will be more positive.

Well said! Lots of good info.

an aside...

You will never convince someone to be ugly just because you are ugly.

(How so, they all ask?)

The answer: because nobody wants to be you.

... talk amongst yourselves, read everything into this that you can think of. It all fits.

I think I'm just old. Do you think we have a generational thing going on here?

At 50 something it takes a lot to get my back up. I'm not easily offended. A look, a sigh, a roll of the eyes is not going to make me go to war. I'm sorry the OP felt she was treated badly. Maybe if I were 20 something again I could relate more easily.

In this particular instance it sounds like the OP was sent to learn "how to close the clinic". Sounds pretty straightforward. "you fill out this form and sign that and put this here and lock that" etc and the nurse was apparently behaving as though it were a big bother. Even if you're tired from your long day, I would hope someone could be polite about that! That's why this complaint differs from prior issues to me.

I take the OP's word for it that the flu clinic nurses were taken aback that such a new nurse was considering so advanced a procedure as giving a flu shot!! Horrors! (sorry). I know-- everything has it's possible complications but I feel in this instance Blackheartednurse has a legitimate gripe. And honestly I've read that seasoned nurses are vicious so many times that my brain filters it out like big black lines on court documents for redacted and sensitive information.
