Some use all the NCLEX books known to man and still don't pass, whereas other don't use any NCLEX books and pass with 75 questions on the first try.

I like to use it as a supplement to my current courses. If I feel like there are specific topics or concepts I struggle with, I'll dig into my Saunders.

See I told my husband there were two saunders books that I for sure wanted. Since I don't start the RN school until January, I just want to have some resource material to reinforce the different testing style. I took the NREMT about 6 years ago and remembered it was didactic, and had so much SATA on it, that required a lot of critical thinking skills, that honestly, it's been a while since I have seen a test question like that. Does the Saunders help to reinforce concepts and prepare you for you test in Nursing school?

Sometimes it does. Saunders has a lot more content than my classes for Med-Surg, Mental Health, etc. But it is very simplified and organized, which I like. It can word certain concepts in a way that makes it click for me, compared to some of my nursing textbooks.

I use my Saunders book with each subject we cover...along with my school book of course. It does help. Plus you need to get use to seeing those kinds of questions, even if your professor doesn't ask NCLEX style questions.

Saunders NCLEX prep book, plus doing all the test prep questions on whatever topic was up for discussion, helped me through each semester in nursing school. I have it to thank for the excellent grades I received, as the endless amount of reading from the books assigned in school was just not going to happen... not enough time in world for that! The Saunders book (big purple one) gives pertinent information but without all the (what I feel) is useless "fluff." Good luck :)

Just looked on Amazon and the latest edition of Saunders Comprehensive Review is 32.00 new. You cant beat that price. I used the 5th edition while in school and it was really helpful. Know the test taking strategies and rationales for the questions. It will help to understand how to answer the questions.

I have about 5 different nclex review books that I picked up on Amazon which I have been using to prepare for exams at school. A few of the questions on my last exam actually came from one of my nclex review books just reworded a little bit different. I have found them to be helpful so far and what really helps is reading the rationales for the questions. All of my books are one edition back from what is current right now and between the price of the books and shipping and handling I paid less than $40 for all of them.

In my peds/ob class, I studied from the Pearson Review and Rational book specifically for the subject. I didn't use my text book and did very well in the class.

I make some of the top grades in my class and study from Davis Success Series - Med Surg Success and use the Saunders Review but the questions really are too easy in the Saunder's Book. I also bought an ATI Med Surg book. I focus on what a nurse needs to know.

Also you can probably buy most of these books used. No need for the newest editions.

I am using Saunders Nclex and success books. Saunders gives you exactly what you need to know and cuts out all the fluff in textbooks and all success books are just nclex questions. I have found these two very useable. However, it should not supplement your textbook and lectures.
